Roland Martin arrived in San Diego Thursday as a guest of Rod and Reel Radio and John Cassidy, owner of Western Plastics and Anglers Arsenal.
We were in San Diego bay filming bay bass fishing yesterday and today Roland, Bill Siemental, John Cassidy, Paul leader from El Cajon Ford, Mike Long and a few other are on Vail Lake filming.
Tonight we are leaving on the Sea Adventure 80 for a 1 1/2 day with Roland, John and a group of Rod and Reel Radio listeners to film some of the offshore tuna action.
Busy week and a lot of fun.
Roland is a real down to earth, passionate angler. He wasn't going to go offshore with us, but he couldn't stand it and at the last minute, changed his airline tickets and decided to go.
I like this guy!
Just before we leave tonight, Roland will be our guest on Rod and Reel Radio live from H & M landing. Come on down if you can or listen in on AM 1260 or AM 540 from 5 PM to 7 PM

Re: Roland Martin
Bill,
Yesterday on the bay was a blast. I felt sorry that we couldn't put him on big fish, but being the man he is, he had a great time with it anyway.
Roland truly is a class act, and I was glad to have helped work with him and Justin yesterday.
Have fun on the show tonight.
Peace,
James

Re: Roland Martin
We had a great trip. 25 to 35 pound Yellowfin. I think everyone had a good shot at a fish and I think everyone got at least one, Including me and Trudy.
Roland was the hot stick. He was always hooked up. I guess winning all of those bass tournaments and fifty years of fishing pays off.
He probably could have caught fish on all of the products that pay him to do commercial spots, more because of his talent as a fisherman than the product.
He is a great guy and one of the best representatives of fishing out there. He was autographing shirts and hats and was generally available to talk with everyone aboard. He made time for everyone.
The trip will be a part of a future show on Fishing with Roland Martin.

Roland Martin in SoCal
I hope a good time was had by one and all even though to most all of us involved, Roland's visit to San Diego was work. Every one involved worked hard to do what they could, or were allowed to do, to expose their business and products to the "national spotlight" Roland's show offered us. Everyone involved was very unselfish in giving what they could or what was asked of them. You all came with no expectations and whatever happened was "icing on the cake".
Tommy Gomes, we could not have pulled off the South Bay segment anywhere near as well without your help and that of the Unigoop staff and friends. You all did a great job even though most of you knew you were not going to get on camera (and most of you, including myself, weren't).
The segments we filmed at Catalina Offshore and Bay Park Seafood Co. really impressed Roland. At Catalina, Tommy's crew arranged a fantistic selection of locally caught fish for Roland's crew to film and Tommy to identifying. Now even the secret "How to produce Uni" was let out of the bag. David Rudy, owner of Catalin Offshore, was very generous with with his products and time.
Tommy was also instrumental in arranging for us a fantastic dining experience at Bay Park Seafood Co. It was so good the crew went back there for a second meal while I was helping one of my employees celebrate his wedding day. Make sure to vist Jerry and Mark and try dining at Bay Park for a really satisfying eating experience (Corner of Ashton and Morena in San Diego).
Wendy (T) that Triton X2 is some kind of "Rocket". Tommy is still pulling gel coat and glitter out of his nostrils. I hope the boat was "broken in" to your expectations Wendy. We were asked to attempt to shoot Roland while in the bay in a Nitro/Bass Tracker product or at least have a platform that featured a Mercury engine. Tommy and I had arranged a couple of boats for the shoot, but it was Wendy who came through with the goods we could and wanted to use. Now imagine this call" Hi Wendy, you know that Triton you just got and haven't yet had the time to break in. Is it all right if Tommy and Roland can use it for a couple of days down on San Diego Bay (without you) and we promise to get it back to you the way we found it!" Wendy had no hesitations in letting us have our way with her new pride and Joy. Tommy and hid best friend Jim made a road trip up to Wendy's to pick the boat up and had to get up to the Orange country area and back during rush hour to meet the filming schedule. Tommy and Jim, good to see you got the opportunity to spend some quality time together! Ha, ha, ha. Guys, also thank you for getting Wendy's boat back to her in as good a condition as possible (would you believe brand new)!
Roland told me out right we planned to much for them to shoot in the little time he had here. Be that as it may, we wanted to be ready for any "glitches" that might show their ugly heads. Luckily most everything went off as planned. The big losers were the San Diego Charger Football Club, The Star of India, The USS Midway Museum and the Calloway winery! They all wanted to work with us, but because of timing or scheduling visits with them had to be postponed.
After the shoot in the bay, Roland was off to film at Vail Lake, did the radio show with Big Tuna Bill and Stan Vandenberg on "Rod and Reel Radio" Sunday evening and then were the guests of Captain Chuck Taft on a 1 1/2 trip on the Sea Adventure 80. Big Tuna Bill, thank you laying the ground work for the Vail Lake segment and arranging the tuna trip on the Sea Adventure 80. Both those trips, filmed by Roland will feature big fish, lots and lots of big fish.
For those of you asking when these shows filmed here in San Diego will be broadcast, all I can tell you is what Roland was telling everyone...."sometime in March". When we get a handle on the exact dates I know it won't be kept a secret.
This entire series of events was launched by Big Tuna Bill on the Rod and Reel Radio Show we did at the ICAST show last July asking Roland Martin during an interview "Why don't you come down to San Diego and visit us sometime"? In the words of Stan Laurel "This was another fine mess you got us into"! Bill thank you for giving us all the opportunity to have our "15 minutes" of fame.
Now if I neglected to thank anyone that was with us over the past five day, please accept my apologies. I just got off the Sea Adventure 80 at 4:30am and rushed Roland to the airport for a 6:15am flight back to Florida. I'm tired, smell worse than the bilges on the "Fowl-Can", can barely see straight, still have a full day of work ahead of me and got my male appendage slammed in a door a couple of times for not being polotically correct. My wife is pissed off at me, my vendors are screaming to be paid, the employees are upset I wasn't here to open up on Monday, the air conditioner in the shop took a dump, most all the folks I know are upset at me they didn't get the chance to meet Roland when he was in town, etc., etc., etc. Life goes on and than we die.
Thank you to all my friends who understand! (This note is written a little "tongue in cheek, so go with it) Ha, ha, ha. jc

Re: Roland Martin
Roland saw the Big Game 90 weigh a 52lb yellow tail and 2 tuna of 65 and 75lbs. That got his fish fishin!
Roland Martin
We found Roland to be a fishing and hunting machine. He can never get enough of neither. After he was finished in SoCal he was scheduled to go to Venice LA and was worried what IKE was going to wipe his trip out. Now take into consideration at that time IKE was bearing down on his home in Florida and the Keys. He wasn't worried about his house or stuff, he was worried about the fishing!
He is a great American fishermen. When we had him on the Rod & Reel Radio show last Sunday while Big Tuna Bill was playing his intro song "Great American Fisherman", we was singing the lyrics along with the music. I don't know if that got out over the air but I thought it was pretty sweet.
Those fish that came on to the dock while we were doing the show at H & M were impressive. Congratulation to you guys that got into them. In the time we had allotted to our fishing trip, Chuck Taft and the hands on the Sea Adventure 80 did us good.
