Revo MGX Spinning First Look

Post by ttb31183 »

The Revo MGX is my favorite of all the Abu reels. It's lightweight, works great and looks even better. I was excited to see that they decided to come out with a spinning reel and just got one in my hands. I'll be doing a complete review and article about it soon, but my first impression is that they nailed it.

The first thing about this reel that really stands out is how light it is. It is just 6.2 ounces for the 20 size I have, which is almost two ounces less than comparable reels from other brands. I'm usually not that into saving a half ounce here or there, but it makes a big difference when its two ounces.

It has a bunch of other features on the drag and casting technology. It also comes with a spare spool that is just as good as the one attached to the reel, which I have started using more and more as I switch between different braid sizes for different applications.

The real test will be to see how it does on the water. But my first impression is very good. Retail is $299 which puts it pretty close to the Shimano Sustain which I own and love. It will be interesting to see which one I like more after fishing the MGX.
