Recessed Trolling Motor Pan

Post by need_a_kicker »

I am thinking about putting a Recessed Trolling Motor Pan on the deck of my boat. I am kind of nervous about doing this and would appreciate any advise. What brand is good, how hard is it to install, etc. Thanks in advance for all of your help. :?

Comfortroll - was a breeze to install -just paid C&C for the work and it was done.......

Seriously, simple task with a Jigsaw and a good blade. Should be about an hour task.

I installed a Comfort Troll in my '85 Ranger a year or so ago. One of the BEST investments I have made for my boat.
Don't ask about my username, all I need to say is check yours and check them often.

I installed one in my Triton FS 190 and it made a world of difference in relieving stress on my legs and back.

The installation was pretty simple. The hardest part was getting up enough nerve to make the first cut.

Luckily there were no cross brace or compartment walls where I had to cut. Be sure to check what's underneath where you need to cut. Others may have suggestions if you need to cut a cross brace.

If you can't visually inspect the area under the front deck where you want to put it (as far forward as is reasonably possible), check with the place you bought the boat, or the boat manuf., to see if there's anything directly under there.
I put a Flat Foot in my boat, no more back spasms on the way home, lots better balance on the lake.
Good luck.

I put a comfort troll in my '05 skeeter zx225. Best thing I've done. Makes a world of difference and gives you more stabiltiy on your feet. Great product and easy to install. Jig saw, several good blades just in case and measure, measure, measure, then cut.

Put one in my 03 Ranger, took about 3 hours to do, but I was extra careful cutting the hole in my boat (makes one a little nervous  ) It came out great should have done it years ago....no more lower back pain. Don't wait to do it, best move you will ever make.

Here is a link to a write-up with pictures I did after I installed a Flat Foot tray in my Skeeter last year. If you take your time, make careful measurements and get the right blade (carbide!) you can do this without too much difficulty. It will be the best thing you ever do to your boat besides selling it!

I really don't think one is better than the other. Some like the rounded back of the Comfortroll more than the square back of the Flat Foot. Personally I liked the fact that the Flat Foot has a slightly tapered rear edge to give your heel a little more clearance when you have to shove your heel down. I think it also allows me to get my foot on the pedal easier from the side since I don't have to line my foot up with the tray to get full motion. Really it's a matter of personal preference. Comfortroll comes in one-size-fits-all, and Flat Foot comes in small and large, however both MG & MK pedals will fit in the smaller size. The small Flat Foot and the Comfortroll are essentially the same size (within a half-inch).
