Rain Gear???

Post by birdi23nls »

With the weather coming soon, I need to buy some raingear. I have rain gear now that I use for hunting but would like to buy some for the boat...bibs and a parka.

Was thinking the 100mph bps but it is pretty expensive. Is it worth the price or is there better stuff out there for the same price or less?

Great choice I bought one last winter when I fished the Winter Nut Case on the Delta. Like I say it's Great used it all winter and was dry and warm as toast.

Get the best rain gear you can afford..Cabellas Guide Wear or BPS 100mph are both excellent choices..I bought my 100mph when it was on a close out sale and haven't been disappointed..It is a great rain suit..

I've had my cabela's guide wear for 10 years. I fish between 100 to 150 days a year and my guide wear is the only gear I trust and rely on. It keeps the wind and rain out and is very comfortable. It is definetly worth the money. It is one piece of equipment that I would not cut corners on.

I just wear my gortex I got in the Marines. When it's really coming down I wear my waders and a carhart PVC rubber coat. Yeah it's ghetto but I spent about 60 bucks and stay dry in the worst of it.

A friend on this forum recieved the 100mph gear last year and loved it. Clearly excellent gear and worth the money if your doing inclimate fishing.

I've been using a gortex "Titianium" ski gear and jacket and using sweat shirts and sweats in layers.

The layers are cool because you can add or remove, but they will build up sweat. But if you fall in the drink...not so good.

Get the best rain gear you can afford! In addition to working better, it will last longer than the less expensive gear.

Last year, I was really having a tough time spending the $$ on some quality rain gear. Moving from a fish 'n ski to a bassboat really made a difference. As in, it was really hard to hide from the wind & rain!

I bought a used set of BPS Pro Qualifier bibs from a member on this board. Couldn't believe the difference it made. Picked up a Guide Wear parka on sale. Got some waterproof (Goretex liner) shoes too.

Fished at least once a week last winter no matter what the weather was. Had some really good days fishing in the rain!

Yeah, I bought some Guide Wear last year (costa plenty). I hope I really need to wear it or I will have to sell the boat and take up dirt bike riding!! While we are parched, the east side of the states are clamoring for higher ground.

Gortex all the way. Its light can go over heavy pants and coat and strong and wind proof can wear as parka if windy days. But still is $100 plus I think Cabela's . That was 5 years ago.

guidewear from cabellas. They stand behind their products.

Keeps you dry and warm.

I got the non-inulated and put layers under if needed.

ONLY REALLY TWO TOP CHOICES
Cabela's GuideWear and BPS 100mph !!

They come insulated and not--problem is they are so good I found the insulated to be so warm as to keep me from wearing it as often as need.
The standard uninsulated is PERFECT--and for Shasta in Jan., etc.--UnderArmour makes some top notch shirts and an outta this world sweatshirt.

As is constant in life--you basically get what you pay for.

so you would not get the insulated then? is the guidewear non-insulated as thick as the 100mph? also is there one that you think is better than the other? is guidewear better than 100 mph, or?

Guide wear is great stuff in the winter time. However they can get quite warm on mild days. I have two pairs one guide wear and the other non insulated Ranger wear rain gear. jim

Non insulated is the way to go. Even for chilly mornings wear em with a pair of jeans under them, then take them off later in the day...assuming it isn't raining. I wore them with shorts under at clear lake this spring when it rained all day and stayed dry without being too hot.
I went with cabellas just from reading reviews on each. Both seem to be top notch. I trust cabellas to step up if I had a problem with the product more then bps, but thats just me.

If I ripped up my GuideWear I would reorder the same day.....and if those blew out of the boat the first day....I would re-order again.
Uninsulated. Works w/ shorts....sweats and on the worst----Heavy UnderArmour longjohns and sweats.
Never --ever got wet Including 38 degree day 8 hrs of sideways rain @Shasta And the wet didn't even wick up the arm
....as for the most PERFECT gloves....I'm still lookin'!

I did some research and it seemed that Cabela's Guidewear bibs and parka were the top choice of the forums, and they were often on sale. However, I was actually able to try on for proper size the 100 mph suit at BPS. Dislike mail ordering and getting a bad fit. So far the 100 mph suit has been impressive. I got a neato Goretex ball cap to match. I plan to get the optional fleece liner jacket this winter. All this good quality stuff seems very expensive until you are out there in really raunchy conditions and you realize it might just save your hiney. Frogg Toggs pants pill badly.

I spent a considerable amount of time looking into this same thing last year at this time. I really liked the look of both the Cabela's & BPS rain gear. As far as material they are very similar. In my previous experience Cabela's will stand behind anything with their name on it. My fishing partner had a pair of bibs from Cabelas and after two season the crouch blew out. No hassle for him to return them.

I ended up purchasing the West Marine Third Reef bid and parka. Their colors are not as 'sexy' as the others but they are constructed of very high quality material and WM also stands very strong behind anything on their name on it. They only come in either Big Bird Yellow or Elmo Red but it comes at a relief in cost. If you don't mind looking like a member of the Sesame Street crew and would like to save a little money then maybe West Marine Third Reef might be worth looking at.
If I call in sick, I am probably on the Delta.

LOL! I know what you mean about colors. My 40 year old Helli Hanson foul weather gear is a grungy rust and oil stained yellow gold. I was a sailing crew in Hawaii. However, I was able to get the 100 MPH in a tasteful navy blue. The bright yellow and red BPS logo really pops!

I have had my 100mph gear for 5 yrs now and have never had a prob. I have fished thorugh some of the worst storms that have came through with sdieways rain and 50 mph winds and have yet to get soaked. I have the uninsulated version when it gets cold I just layer up. you really cant go wrong with either as guidewear is also top of the line. The thing with raingear is you get what you pay for, when it is storming and going home isnt an option the two brands mentioned are worth every penny! Just my .02. tight lines.

I use my snowboarding jackets and pants for the rain. They work great and keep me plenty warm. 8) I wear my waterproof Rocky work boots to keep my feet dry.
