Question on California Fishing License

Post by Marty »

My Son is coming in today and we are planning to go fishing on Sunday and Monday then latter in the week. My question is on California Fishing License – does California have a Military exempt or a reduce cost? Also how many days are the temp licenses good for? We went fishing before he left but I just don’t remember what I did then – must be the age.

I believe that being in the Military allows that person to buy a Resident fishing license and not have to buy a more expensive non resident.

This is true. The only discount or break you get is if you're 50% or more service connected disabled.

He can purchase the resident license, I did this when I was statione in WA. I get the 50% or more service conected and I pay $6.50 a year :) Tell your son I said Thank you for his service! No matter what branch we all are on the same team in the end.

That is not true. The only military reduced priced license is for military members with a 50% disability who was honorably discharged or retired from the military.

Fish and Game Code Section 70 defines "Resident" as any person who has resided continuously in the State of California for six months or more immediately prior to the date of their application for a license or permit, any person on active military duty with the Armed Forces of the United States or auxiliary branch thereof, or any person enrolled in the Job Corps established pursuant to Section 2883 of Title 29 of the United States Code.

The state of California doesn't do anything for military members at least not for fishing licenses.

Id' just buy him a year round liscence ..... No matter if he is home for the year or not ... or decides to make 3 unexpected trips to you to be with Pop's. After all he has done and served for - I would buy him a CA Liscence every year for Christmas, Even just to photocopy and send to him for a presant knowing he can use it at any time while in CA once he comes again Stateside.

Year Liscene vs. 2 day Liscence ........ Go collect some cans to pay the difference of chump change that goes to the Govt. fund for the CA DFG.

Last year our youngest son went out 1x for an evening dove shoot, 3x on for Phesants and only shot 2x for bad misses all times with his .410 moss 500 Jr gun. He never got to get out of school or from his BBall Game's that he was Team commited to - for Duck Hunting towards his Fed Stamp cost on top of his Jr. Liscence.

It more than payed for itself already in him just being Outdoors with me on the right to liscence that he "earned" and was more than a privlage for me to partake in with them both for every outing ~ and all on my dime to share "their moments" with them in the Outdoors with what time I get to experince with them in what we can share togther............ "When ever we can". :D

Cliff notes ......Even though your boy is a Man -- You can still Pamper Him like the "kid" he is to you........ you Cheap Bassturd !!
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

When he is home he is still a Ca resident, even tho he is on duty with military. I buy my grandson a Ca lic every year in Dec, when the news come on sale. So you can buy your son one and he will have it anytime he is home and can go fishing.
You can check the ca resident and/or active duty military on the lic, when you buy it. Bill K :)
Fun fishing the country, each and every week.

That's exactly what it means CIB. I think Tom here is misreading it. I have buddies from out of state who I've personally taken to get fishing licenses with only an active duty I'd. There's a place on the license where you check a box for active military. There would be no need for such a box if it was meaningless as Tom states.

Heck, I'd buy him 1 if I lived closer and when I gave it to him shake his hand and thank him for service to this country. It would be my pleasure!
Grandkids. Fishing. What could be better? Watching them catch a big 1 Or hitting 1 out of the park. "Never give up" for the love of the game!

Had a excellent time with my son fishing the last two days (Pic's to come)– we will be going out again this weekend and the week before he leaves. He is a resident of California even if he is station someplace else (which happens to be Hawaii after Iraq – real tuff duty station). I picked him up a resident yearly fishing License – it is the best way to go for the money.

Thanks to everyone for their inputs.

PS – he out fished me and he let me known about it too!
