pressure treated wood for bunk boards...Good Idea?

I have to replace the bunk boards on my bass boat pretty soon and was wondering if it is a bad idea to use carpeted pressure treated wood for my bunk boards. Does the pressure treated wood cause any weird problems to the gell coat or anything like that? any imput would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Chris C.

The absolute best would be clear fir treated with penetrating epoxy!!
I don't know for sure, but rubber backed boat carpet over pressure treated wood sounds good to me.

No problem with regular treated wood because most marine carpeting has a rubber backing. Remember if you drill holes to re- treat that area before installing the carriage bolts. The wood is not treated all the way through. Some use wood screws but not me.

Guys, I re did my bunks as well as my whole trailer.

Rubber treated carpet does not allow the water to drain out of the wood. moisture will get in and stay in. thats why you see most bunk carpet to be really thin. pressure treated wood is what i used. think about it cemented in the dirt and exposed to elements full time not just every once in a while will last 20 years. on a boat trailer with breathable carpet covered by a boat in the shade should not be a problem. Just make sure you use galvinized locking washers. Nuts get loose by road vibrations. Some people use spray adheisive to set the carpet.

I used pressure treated wood, 3m heavy duty adhesive, galvanized screws, and the carpet mentioned and it was an easy 30 minute fix. Way better than having a boat dealer do it for you and get charged hourly rates.

Just launched my boat, replaced the bunk boards, and stuck a couple fish with 30 minutes left all while having my 3 year old daughter helping me out and holding the fish...

PRICELESS for sure!!

Thanks for all of the useful information. Now I can do this job myself instead of paying an arm and a leg for marine labor.
