Pre tied dropshot rigs

Post by Sean Graf »

I'm a fan of the Spro, pre tied drop shot rigs but what a pain it is for me trying to un-wind them out of the package.

I fished a tournament on McClure recently and couldn't help but laugh out loud because it was such a task. It got so bad, I actually started cutting the hook off and tying it directly to my mono.

Anybody know the secret to unwinding these pre tied leaders?

Use those small Line spools (the one that are given as sample) and wrap around and lock in place with tape. Place in a sandwich bag with a little water – just a few drops!

Not sure what the attraction is for them... far quicker to just tie a straight dropshot setup, rather than trying to deal with managing pre-rigs? I tried tying my own when I first got into it, and soon bailed as it wasn't worth the effort.

Definitely need a tube-type storage device (I have one that has some foam on it) and either tape, rubber bands, or velcro to secure them. Still not a real elegant solution as far as I'm concerned.

Good luck!

To save valuable fishing time...I have found that pre-rigged C-rigs can be kept nice and neat by getting one of those swimming pool "noodles" and cutting them into 8 inch pieces. I have bought these at the Dollar Tree stores (guess how much they cost?? )

Just wrap the rig around it and then bury the hook. You can use a rubber band to secure the swivel end. Or, you can cut a slot on the end of the noodle to hold the swivel end and wrap the leader from there. Then bury the hook.

You can do this from both ends of the noodle and get around 6 rigs on each noodle piece.

I store these in a 1 gallon Freezer Ziploc.

I imagine this would work well on the pre-rigged dropshot rigs too.
