POWELL NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE

Post by mrheuby »

Just got off the phone with Powell to warranty a rod that just broke. Didn't go the way it usually goes actually he hung up on me. I have used Powell rods for many years and the few times I had an issue the problem was taken care of no questions asked. Not any more they want an original receipt and if you don't, no warranty. I understand that is there rule but they didn't ask for it in the past and to hang up come on. So if you own a Powell rod make shure you keep the receipt.

Try using their website. The last few rods I sent back I had no issues. They want you to cut the 2” section with the model on it and send it to them. I didn’t deal with anyone except the site and a fairly easy experience. I have no ties to the company but I’m sorry for your experience. Some customer service these days just ain’t how it use to be.

zmyers, how long ago did you use the site? I have sent the cut section before with no problem now on the site it looks like they are requiring it.

Not sure why you are having issues. I just got three rods under warranty from Powell last month. I went to their website and took the pics that they asked for including cutting the model number in half and received all three rods in a week. Easy peasy. No receipt. Try going to website again. Hope it works for you.

Yeah I broke a rod this year bouncing a fish, called theme and they said go through the website. Followed the instructions and they sent the new rod, I think it was $50 or something, but worth it. No problem.

Glad to hear they are handling rod warranty's the way they always had and not taking on some kind of new policy. I'm guessing who ever I talked to on the phone was having a bad day. I own over 25 Powell rods and have used them for years. I have also never had a negative experience dealing with them until now. I was just hoping all was still the same as it was in the past. Thank for all the responses.

I work in a tackle shop. We were informed that the policy had indeed changed, requiring an original receipt. The cutting of the blank sent with the warranty fee was not alone sufficient to complete a warranty request.

Will a copy of the online sale from Tacklewarehouse be enough?

I keep all my Tackle Warehouse invoices. I do this so in case I need to reorder something I have it on record. I've actually had to go back and look up items.
