Boat decontamination

Post by Jrs461 »

Would anybody have any ideas on how we can decontaminate our boats ourselves.
I know the authorities don’t give a sht if we do it ourselves. I go to a lot of lakes where nobody is there checking. I’d like to be able to do my part. I’ve heard it said that white vinegar ran through live wells works also spray it on trailer bunkers
totally in the dark on this subject . Any information would be appreciated.

Yeah I would like to know about this too. Seems like it will be a while before any of these agencies are willing to go out on a limb and put something like this out there.

It's all B.S.. My money is that the state or some water agency had something to do with this. I find it strange that in the last hundred years nothing happened until now.

No ****. Who believes the golden mussel just decided to hitch a ride on a ship after all these years ?

If we clean and dry our boats nothing is moving.
What is the chance you run your boat in water with the microscopic larva in it and then it gets moved to another lake and populates?
Are we suppose to believe that every drop of water in the delta has the larva?
They act like we are stupid

I get it. We can’t let a boat with mussels attached to the outboard or hull on the lakes
Just dry off the boat and cleaning like 99% of bass guys already do is more than adequate.
Anyone with common sense knows that. The problem is the powers to be think we have no sense at all just because they have little to none themselves
It’s nothing more than an excuse to go green and get boats off the water
This is outrageous and 50% of are falling for it

Here I have this from 2008

To decontaminate a boat from zebra mussels using bleach, the recommended solution is generally 2 cups of household bleach per 1 gallon of water. This creates an effective disinfectant that kills zebra mussel larvae and adults. Here’s how to proceed:
Steps for Decontaminating a Boat:
1. Prepare the Solution: Mix 2 cups of bleach (approximately 10% bleach solution) with 1 gallon of water. Use a well-ventilated area and wear gloves to protect your skin.
2. Apply the Solution:
Spray or scrub the solution onto all surfaces of the boat that have been in contact with water (e.g., hull, propellers, bilge area, live wells, trailer, etc.).
Pay extra attention to crevices, joints, and other hard-to-reach areas where zebra mussels might hide.
3. Let It Sit:
Allow the solution to sit for at least 10 minutes. This gives the bleach time to kill the mussels and larvae
4. Rinse Thoroughly:
Rinse the boat thoroughly with clean, fresh water to remove the bleach solution and any dead mussels or larvae.
5. Dry the Boat

The is the main source of the problem and they will never shut it down. The lakes that are currently shut down or new hours will be back up and running before spring the Feds will see to that. They don't like losing money.

You want to bet on that? I bet the total gate fee's from boaters for the year pay's for less than 10 employees. Probably 5 if you factor in everything, or probably just for two of their highest paid employees. They don't care about money since it magically shows up every year in the form of a budget.
They pretty much stole the lake that tax payers built and this is going to happen to a lot more lakes. I for one won't ever go back there until things go back to the way they were.

All they need to do is get a system in place at all our bodies of water, where something scans your cf# upon coming thru the gate. Then when you go to a different body of water you get re-scanned and it will show instantly if you have been to an infested waterway.. Pretty simple

Here in SoCal, It's pretty simple. Certain lakes take each other tags. DVL, Perris, Silverwood and Puddingstone each take each others tags. Castaic and Pyramid take those lakes tags also but those lakes don't take Castaic and Pyramid's tags. If your lakes up there would do something like that, you wouldn't have to get decontaminated at every lake. Castaic and Pyramid take each others tags also.

Everyone seems to be assuming that every lake is going to shut down. So far it's just Camanche (Pardee), Berryessa, Melones, Hennessey, and a couple lakes in Nevada County that nobody cares about. Am I missing any?

I don’t know? I’m a fair weather spring through fall guy I don’t fish in the winter. Through the years I haven’t caught many stripers in Whiskey and I never target them. Up until a couple years ago before they sprayed weeds on Empire Cut I caught a fair amount of shaker sized stripers there. They really destroyed the rock banks on Empire when they sprayed.

I hardly ever target them either
But I always have a big walking bait rigged on the deck in case I see them busting. It’s a fun getting 10 pounders on topwater
For so many years I use to ignore them and just target the black bass. Not anymore!

Something I think quite a few people aren’t factoring are the money generated by pleasure boaters on both Melones and Berryessa. Both of those places depend on money in the area to support their economy. ie Pleasure Cove at Berryessa. When wakeboard show up to play and they are turned away and it’s either their moored boats or rentals and the trickle of fishing boats jumping through the hoops, that will get old and they will go someplace else. I for one would like to see what they plan to impart on the boats and ships that have been in Asian waters to decon the China Mussel out. I don’t foresee them hot dipping a cargo ship yet residents will be at the forefront of tackling the mess we didn’t create.

. I m sure some the guides love it. The advantage having a boat that is ready for a certain body of water most guys can’t just run up to and fish without waiting 30 days. To take clients on a low pressure body of water is ideal for some guides.

If you read what Trump has said there no Fed money for disaster in CA or for programs that liberal Democrats have implemented. Biden just can't give 100% of the money to LA fire disaster because he doesn't have the money to give ask congress and the senate they run the show. Beside how much money did Biden give North Carolina for disaster relief that would be 0. So guy Trump as backing and CA. Liberals are in trouble. Trump going to come down very hard on this state you can bet on it.

Good point his cabinet is full of like minded whack jobs. Back in 2018 Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen committed exactly the same crime, plead guilty and got three years in prison and three years probation. Why am I not surprised Trump got nothing other than a felony on his record and his DNA in a database?

Good luck in your recovery Jiggin want you back out on the water asap
