Hi All,
Yes, the season of the fall feed is already upon us! But coincidentally it seems like mid-summer as I write this while the air temp is over 100 degrees, and there are several triple digit days still ahead of us. Even so, we all know that the weather will cool, the fish will feed, and the fall bite will catch up to us in no time. For those of us that have been on the California Delta, we can see the bait fish and fry are already plentiful, helping us determine lure profile, and color. This season is always a favorite!
We hope this issue gives you some insight into a few of the new products in the industry, a new fishery to catch bass in the Golden State at, an insider’s look at how Forward Facing Sonar is not only changing the tournament side of our sport, but also the tackle industry and so much more info that in the end helps you hookup with more and bigger bass.
We would like to welcome two new advertisers with us – ValleY Hill and Limit Out Marine.
And as always, we encourage you to support the companies that support WesternBass and the sport of bass fishing. Without them none of this would be possible.
Good luck to those getting ready for their season- ender fall Tournament of Championships.
And of course, tight lines!
Wayne

Viper head Lions collar finesse Brown/Orange
One of many styles of bucktail jigs I build
Pd this may be a silly question I just have to ask I know your insecure about using anything less than 65 lb. Braid in your finesse fishing. When you build your bucktail jigs do you use glue to lock the thread in place so the bucktail wont slip or come out from being wrap. If so its another excuse for being insecure.
Dont use glue on any thread when building there is no need to use two half knots and loop knot and the bucktail is lock in place. No slip or twist and it will never come apart under any conditions.
Your jigs not even bucktail.

I’d like a little longer tail section on that for me, but that looks interesting to drag around.

Re: FALL IS HERE ARE YOU READY
Pd I can build micro finesse 1/64 oz. Lions collar jigs it might compliment the 65 lb braid your using you can't get anymore finesse than that. Smallmouth and Spotted bass kill em.
Im going stick with 2,3,4 lb. maxima line when fishing these micro finesse jigs.
It will leave a on your face

Re: FALL IS HERE ARE YOU READY
Jiggin. Come put your 4 pound test on a 2 oz sinker
4/0 gamagatsu super line hook and punch the heavy cover in the delta
All kidding a side. I love green maxima and use it all the time
I tried many different fluorocarbon lines including maxima
I finally quit and went back to green max. Then recently I bought a spool of plain old Berkeley trline 100% fluorocarbon and like it very much for jig fishing 30-60 feet in the lakes. Just passing along my experience It has less memory and fishes beautifully
If you are thinking about trying something new

Re: FALL IS HERE ARE YOU READY
I might break off 1 or 2 about every 8 or 9 trips not many. I have no trouble setting the hook. My rods I use are specially set up for these micro finesse jigs and light line they are 6' med heavy spinning rods I use 1000 series reels they match up very nice.
Millerton Pine flat Mcclure Don Pedro Tullock Eastman & Hensley lakes
They work very good on Smallmouth Spotted bass & Largemouth.
There micro jigs work every well in the fall and winter on suspended bass in deep water 30 to 50 ft. I really like use them over and around brush piles or bushes in deep water. Isolated structure or rock and in trees in deeper water. In both 1/64 or 1/32 oz. They both work very well.

Re: FALL IS HERE ARE YOU READY
Curiosity killed the cat, but couldn't help but ask. What is the fall rate on those micro jigs? Appears to me it would take several minutes to reach 50 ft and if there is a breeze is there blow back? I get the light line (used to use 6# on darterheads in Pedro all the time)....but 2 in a rocky situation?
Anyway thanks in advance its an interesting back and forth.

Re: FALL IS HERE ARE YOU READY
Hey Ed
Regarding fall rate I'm pretty sure he fishes them on a drop shot with 1/4 ounce sinker or he just targets suspended fish.

Yes it takes several minutes to reach 50 ft and no I dont drop shot the jigs. I like the slow rate of fall. There always suspended fish around. There a fall & winter bait for me.
I have time and patience when it come to jig fishing its what I do best.

I dont drop shot the micro jigs no need to
