Striper on a fly rod?

Post by MikeTruso »

I know it sounds crazy but i've been wanting to try to fish for striper on a fly rod. Can anybody recommend a good one? A buddy told me the Redington Predator would be good. I found this review which seems to speak highly of it - https://www.rhythmflyfishing.com/review ... or-review/

Does anybody else have a good recommendation?

Lots of guys fly fish for Stripers. 8-9 wt. Whistler fly. Fall is the best before heavy rain and water still clear. Used to do it on Franks

Where are you planning on doing this? CA Delta? Montauk? If your anywhere near Sacramento go to Kienes Fly Shop and talk to Andy Guibord. He will get you squared away and point you in the right direction. You're a little late to the party as the fishery has completely tanked in recent years but you can still find plenty of opportunities during the right time of the year. Delta, American River, Feather, Sacramento, San Luis Reservoir, O'Neil forebay, etc. I hope you figure this game out. There's nothing better than having a good one eat a stripped fly.
