Don Pedro advice for future trip....
I'm going to be on Don Pedro in two weeks....I'm thinking my senko, small swimbaits,dropshot,topwater....It's only been like 20 years since I crossed paths with the Don. I assume everything is a month off at this lake as it has been in SoCal. Water temps? If it's something you don't want out use a p.m. instead of here on this thread. I know it's kind of an alms for the poor thing but I'm going to be at the mercy of a big unknown here. I don't know the person or type of boat he uses. I have carefully been left out of my wife's plans to visit up there. Since the women folk decided early on that we go fishing I am hopeful...

I haven’t fished Pedro in at least 20 years either. I have a cousin that fishes it often and it’s predominantly spotted bass these days.

Split shot rig with a hologram shad 4.5" curly robo worm. Sometimes the curly tail shad on the drop shot was good also. Locals said the curly robo on a darter head worked good too.I never tried it though…
Had a vacation house up there for twelve years and it was a consistent bait for me at both Pedro and McClure.
Have fun in the motherlode!

Kelly. It's been awhile since Pedro was full, so for me it's old school. Blue Ghost (if there still around) Purple ghost magic worms, 6") is a close second. The old black back rattletrap in the afternoon mudlines, or 1/2 oz chatterbait in white with d shad trailer. try a 1/8 oz darterhead on the 120 bridge stanchions (I like using 6 # test (loose drag)( the second one on the left going up from Fleming meadows was always best for me) . throw it out next to stanchion and let it sink (open bail) til it stops sinking, close bail and set hook. You'll be over very deep (100+ ft) water so when it stops its a fish. Also, a white spinner bait chrome blades next to the stanchion too. Let it sink, and slow retrieve. If you have forward facing sonar, check for the depth of the suspended fish. (I know you probably know that but in case )
Don't overlook top water poppers, or spooks in the trees.
Have a good time and Good Luck.

Ryan Cook with the Bass Report podcast spills the beans on Don Pedro. He is a guide that fishes these "Motherlode" lakes every day. I sent you a PM with his latest reports, but I would suggest following him on Facebook and checking out the BassReport

Re: Don Pedro advice for future trip....
I'm from Socal and I fish my wife will tell you. I have some pretty nice stuff lined up to go in a 10 x 12 plano. That's all I'm taking except 6 bags of plastics..... Nothing is cheap when you are the guest I saw Ryan's latest. So I'm prepared for the drill. I did win AOY from the backseat a thousand years ago in Santa Barbara so I'll make the poor guy happy by giving him a few senko's and hooks . While I smoke him in his own boat. I guarantee the electronics are not what anyone would wish for or can live with. It makes for a great day for me as the average Johnny Lunchbucket is years behind the curve. Who knows what a Jackall holeflik 6.5 is? Anyone seen one??? I've already been fishing them for half a year now ....pretty cool bait when you have the color they want and the fall rate....super slow hunting whoooyahhh.....gulp. Thanks for the input it wasn't wasted.

I can officially shut down this post as I was able to talk to the other fisherman last night. I'm not taking any tackle or rods...If anybody sees two guys in a 12 aluminum boat trolling for trout Kindly shoot me. I'll be in the front portion of the boat wondering what I did to my wife to deserve this.

Re: Don Pedro advice for future trip....
after 66 years I evolved...sue me ....sitting in a boat trolling is possibly one of the best ways to catch a fish...But it doesn't flip my flapjack.I suppose one day it might be my only avenue ....I am at home both salt/fresh after a lifetime of fishing. It's his tackle and I am going to sit.I doubt I'll see any smoked trout unless it's fresh when I get there as we are only spending 3 days in that area on our trip. It'll be different scenery. Thanks the olive wooley bugger tip. Luckily for the fish I'm sure he's never heard of it
