No not yet,but i will. I was told the fuel filter is in the motor,I need to get a motor manuel so that I have some idea of what Im doing when I take the cover off.The evinrude book that came with the motor new is not to informative.No number to contact them directly that I can find.Thank you for your advise,201Pro wrote:have you checked your fuel line, filter, pump, etc.?Hunt clubs wrote:

Where you located? IF on or around the delta, you can call and ask the buys at the Boat Masters II. They're generally pretty helpful. I HAVE A 200 EVINRUDE FICTH AND THAT HAPPEN TO ME WHEN I HAD TULLEY RAPPED AROUND MY LOWER UNIT WATER PICK UP VENT, SO MAKE SURE HAVE NOTHING BLOCKING THE VENT AND MAKE SURE IT IS NOT OVERHEATUING OS YOU MAY JUST A NEW WATER PUMP CAUSE AT IDLE IT WILL RUN OK WITH JUST ALITTLE WATER BUT AT HIGH SPEED IT IS NOT PUTTING OUT ENOUGH

I also have an Evinrude that did the exact same thing. Looked into everything and finally found out that it was some bad fuel. I drained the fuel tank, refilled it with good fuel and then let the motor idle until everything was cleaned out. After idling a while I throttled it up and it missed a couple times and then started running fine. I don't know if what we did was the proper way to fix the problem but it did the job and has run fine ever since(that was 50 hours or so ago). Hope this helps. Stoti

One of the other guys is right a bad temp sensor will do it but I think it could be a bad water pump or thermostat I had that same problem on my old 150hp Johnson it will sit there and run all day until you try to get up on planet will shutdown and shut off but once it cool it will run no problem and it look like I had good stream of water coming out from the water pump so I came back in took it home a remove the lower unit to check the water pump and found that groumet was sitting sideways in the wa yet pump and after that it ran good

After driving 90 miles to the lake my friend's mercury did the same thing. After driving back home he remembered that he had changed the fuel and found that he had put it backwards...something easy to check.

Sounds like you have received some good advice. I don't know anything about your motor, but I had a very strange, kind of similar issue with my Merc 225 efi. Fought the issue for over 2 years, a real nightmare. A friend told about BassBoatCentral.com. There is a thread for every kind of boat or motor, where you can post your problem. In the case with my Merc, there were a couple of responses from very knowledgeable guys, who I believe must have been Merc mechanics. They were spot on, had other good responses that were not the issue, but I had to eliminate them anyway. After two different sessions at the dealer to the tune of about $2500, I fixed the issue myself for nothing. A great resource!

I have a smaller hp 2005 etec and experienced a similar problem. Pulled the cover and got into the filter that’s part of the engine where the main fuel goes into it. Full of little pieces of rubber. Fuel lines were in the beginning stages of ethanol deterioration. It would idle fine but when I went to get up on plane the suction of the fuel pump was collapsing the fuel line. This restriction and the rubber pieces accumulating were the culprit…
