Well it's that time of the year here in AZ and we have been experiencing some pretty bad monsoons. We have had some heavy rain, winds, and dust storms lately that has caused flooding and power outages. We have also had some fellow anglers during local night tournaments get caught out in these heavy storms and caused some damage. Local marinas have had some docks break loose and caused boats that were moored to collide at Lake Pleasant. It is quite the light show at nights with the flash of lightning and thunder that make it look like Fourth of July all over again. As much as we need the rain like most other states, it makes the commute and fishing difficult when we get it all at once. Lake Pleasant this past week went up 4 verticle feet in one day with the heavy storm we just encountered. I have a whole new respect for Mother Nature since I'm not used to experiencing this kind of weather originally coming from Orange County.
As the US Open draws near and most of us start our venture to Lake Mead, we need to be aware of the weather and current conditions. We need to check on the weather the night before each day and have our cell phones handy with the weather app available. You can be out on the water in one basin and the weather crosses your path in another basin that will make it difficult or impossible to navigate back to the launch ramp. Lake Mead in general has been known to test your equipment and boat navigating skills but this time of the year even more so.
I will be heading back over to Lake Mead for two more days of pre-practice and will try to take some more photos to keep you anglers updated on the water conditions and launching situations. Just remember to go through your equipment and get everything secured and tighten down before venturing out to Lake Mead. Here are a few pictures of the last storm here in the Phoenix area. Good fishin and tight lines!

Mmm, clouds and rain. Almost like pancakes and syrup.
