First time going to Pedro.....help?

Post by Matt Moreau »

Sup guys...I am going to head to Pedro sometime this weekend and I have never been. Can you guys give a little help?

Best place to launch? I see there are a few places to launch. Are their fees and do they seach your boat for quagga? is one ramp better than the other or cheaper? It looks like the dam areas would be the closest to me driving from Disco Bay and taking 132. Is that a good route or should i take 120 and launch at moccasin?

Are there any hazards to watch for? I have a topo and know the lake is low just wondering if there are tree's, island tops or stuff like that to watch for?

Any help ideas or reports would be much appreciated!

Thank you
Matt

Hey Matt,
If you are coming up 132 I would just continue up through Modesto and Waterford up to the lake! That gives you the opportunity to stop at Bait Barn in Waterford if you need any last minute items. Blue Oaks is probably the best place to launch for bass boats on weekends but Fleming is ok also; Marina and store at Fleming.
If you stay on the main lake you don't have much to worry about with hazard but when you get back into some of the creek channels you can hit trees and rocks.
Big Creek can be good this time of year for the pre-spawn fish as well as most of the major creeks, you just need to look for areas that would hold pre-spawners.

Fish what you are comfortable with, Jigs, dart heads, drop-shot, Senkos all work there, you just need to figure out the depth they are holding first so change up on how deep you are fishing until you catch a few and replicate that !
Watermelon Red, Green Pumkin/Black Flake, Bold Blu-gil; All will work there! With the lake so low and the rain of this past few days I would be looking for incoming water in back of creeks; Big Creek, Blu Oaks and Rodgers are all a few minute run from either launch and throwing a spinner bait also. You can also run up to Woods and Moccasin which will take you about twenty mins at 50mph.

Good advice what George said! Bring some spoons and be ready to fish up to 50 feet depending on the bait depth. RR

All ramps are $18 dollars to launch, Blue Oaks ramp is almost out of the water, they are recommending not to launch boats over 20 ft from there, there is a self check form for mussels, there are several creeks that have some standing trees that you need to be on the lookout for.
