What makes someone pay $200-$300+ for a bait!

OK, here it is; what makes us pay $100,$200,$300 for a lure! My only thought would be what could the return be if I catch the winning fish in a tournament this year and I make my investment back!

Or it could be "My wife shops at Nordstroms and Macys and pays $500 for a pair of shoes so I am going to teach her a lesson and pay $300.00 for a swim bait".

Or it could be " I have so much money I don't care what the newest bait cost I am going to buy one".

So, what ever your reason is lets hear it!

I know I have a hard time paying fifty bucks for a bait that on any cast I can leave on the bottom of the lake. I lost a BBZ lure that I paid like thirty bucks for and spent the next hour trying to retrieve it from twenty feet at Diamond Valley!

Give me your best reason/excuse/rational for buying the most expensive bait you have ever bought and why you would spend $300 on a lure.

easy....it's an addiction to catch giant bass... once you see the caliber of fish that target baits like a slide swimmer or a mother its easy to see how people become addicted. I'm not saying it is normal behavior. I consider myself a freak for buying lures like that but i can't help it. Haha

I think from the Movie: Waterboy says it best. Jerry Reed said," My daddy says what's better than a crawfish dinner?, answer: Two crawfish dinners! I been buying swimbaits since the 80's, when we thought 50 bucks was a lot. lol You can never have to many swimbaits. But no matter what, if the swimbait is 200,300 or 400 bucks and it is the hot bait out there yeah I am going to buy it or get one. I just say to myself, oh yes it will be mine, oh yes it will be mine. Because we all know the rush of watching or feeling that big bass hit your big bait is a giant rush. So if I have to pay the price for that rush I say, Hell Yes..... I recall Ray Scott asking me, "Chief you think your going to catch a bass with that swimbait, looks like something I would hang in my Christmas tree". Well I made Ray a believer and then he asked if he could have may swimbait. I said Ray that's a 100 dollar bait. Who says no to Ray Scott lol. Tight lines to all and Happy Holidays.

couldn't tell you why because I won't do it! I have spent $75 for a bait and felt dumb doing it. I think its an addiction like a lot say. I am not one to spend that kinda coin on a swimmer... never have and never will. Myself, I've been able to use the $10-30 dollar baits my entire career and catch PLENTY of 10+ lbers. Of all my teeners, 90% were on a $15 Osprey and 10" Basstrix.

to each their own though, I let the crazies spend their mortgages on a swimmer!

unfortunately with the release of the paddle tail swimmers by Basstrix, they decided to stop production on the original 6, 8, 10" baits. It was a brutal day for me as its ALL I used to throw. If you find one jump on it... I'm still looking myself for some around.

I certainly can not give a good answer on the grounds, I never had that kind of money to spend on a lure. I am happy to have enough gas money to go once in a while.

why not? guys spend 300+ on reels and rods with out any issues. A big swimbait like your speaking of will last you through years and years of fishing. how much does a guy spend on senkos all year to catch little fish. There are times when the senko is the best option for BIG fish and there are other times that the best option for a BIG bite is a big swimbait. fishing the mother and seeing the attention and the giants it draws in just for follows, besides the catches can change a guys mind real quick. Being in the boat on a day when the big bait bite is on and you have 40lbs by 9am and conventional baits wont get a bite will make you a believer. Ive ruined a couple guys standing on the back deck scratching their heads wondering why fish would gobble a 12-16" bait. In a sport where spending 4K on power poles that dont even get used is normal, i cant see what the problem with a 300$ bait is

I'll throw another slant on it and why I have bit the bullet on some spendy baits. After a day going through 4 to 6 soft swim baits that cost $15 to $20 and are shot, that $100 bait that is still catching bass 5 years later was a pretty sound decision. Still hurts though, you look at one little cheap plastic box that has $750 of baits in it, and it isn't a very big box. That's my story....
