mercury oil

Post by SacRtrain »

I'm looking for somewhere to get Merc Primum plus 2 stroke oil at a good deal. I usually get it at Gone Fishing but they've been out for a while. In or around Sacramento. Thanks.

Wally World carries Quicksilver Premium Plus (same stuff, just labeled under the Quicksilver brand for sale at non-marine retailers) if you need it in a pinch.

The mechanic at Bucks said to not mix quicksilver and merc premium because they coagulate and cause the engine to foul. But ill call c and c tuesday to see whats up. thanks. any other inside info on a deal is still appriciated.

Mercury Premium = Quicksilver Premium
Mercury Premium Plus = Quicksilver Premium Plus

Funny--Buck's told me they're the same oil, just branded differently for Merc dealers and non-Merc/non-marine vendors. "Plus" is their synthetic blend for 2-strokes and maybe the mechanic meant you shouldn't mix Plus with their DFI/Opti or 4-stroke oils? You can verify the differences with a Google search...

There are two kinds of Premium Plus, regular and synthetic and they don't mix well the synthetic is the best in my opionion but if you want to change over to synthetic run your oil tank down low before mixing oils DFI is a different oil for specific apps, such as opti pro xs, Merc. and Quicksilver are the same product as far as I am told.

Mercury Premium Plus is the same as Quicksilver Premium Plus.

Different labels, one for merc dealers and the other for everyone else.

Wally world for 25$ a gallon.

Premium Plus is a single product and it's a synthetic blend--they changed it to a blend some time ago.

Not all Wally Worlds are alike (i.e. not all carry this stuff). Was in the Livermore WW the other day and they had the Quicksliver Premium Plus for $25 and change. Great price as I'm paying $30+ for bulk Evinrude XD-100 ...

Actually it is the same oil, Just Mercury (for what ever reason or market value) went back to thier old Quick Silver logo/brand/motif a few years back. If you are old enough you can remember the Old Mercury/Kiefhauver (?) logo. Bill K :)

No. Mercury/Quicksilver (same oil, BTW) Premium PLUS is a synthetic blend, while just plain Mercury/Quicksilver Premium oil is strictly a fossil fuel product. While they are both TC-W3 approved, ONLY Premium Plus is recommended for use in Optimax motors (along with their DFI oil).

Right--that's exactly what I said. Mercury rebranded their Premium and Premium plus oils under the Quicksilver name for non-Merc vendors.

At the risk of contradicting anyone here, I have been selling this oil for many years and may be able to shed some light on the subject. Mercury oil and Quicksilver oil are one and the same. The Quicksilver brand is for retailers who are not Mercury Marine Dealers, such as your Wal Marts, tackle stores, etc... Quicksilver is in no way cheaper or different - same cost. Mercury Premium oil is recommended for most small 2 cycle outboards. We run Premium Plus in EFI, Pro XS and many other engines - it is the most common. This oil is not a true synthetic oil like Amsoil or Red Line, but rather it is a "blend" meaning it has many additives which help keep the cylinder walls clean and hopefully make the engine last longer! Mercury Optimax oil is recommended for all other Optimax engines. This is about as close to a true synthetic oil as you are going to get. It does have additives as well as being a different viscosity. By the way we ran this oil in the early Pro XS engines and I saw more than one seize a piston! Mercury promptly switched back to the Premium Plus oil for this series of engines. The Optimax oil is similar to the E-Tec XD 100 oil. Premium plus is blue/green and Optimax oil is red/brown.

We have been out of the bulk oil for a month but We will have Bulk oil again beginning this week:

Premium Plus Bulk:$21.99

Optimax Bulk:$24.98

By the way, we have been offering the pre packaged oil at a 20% discount and the price has only been $22.59

Pretty sure that is the cheapest around - Not trying to offend anyone...just some info

Recently Mercury changed their oil requirements back to DFI Optimax oil only on all Merc DFI engines.
