cold weather gear

Just have a question regarding cold weather gear, I have a regular snow suit and a BPS 100mph rain suit the problem is when it is real cold and rainy I have to put both on and it creates problems moving around etc. Does anyone know of a good under garment that will keep a person warm so I can use the rain suit only and wont give one that clamey feeling. The bib and jacket is nice and will keep you dry it just is not warm enough.

I have a base layer that I bought from cabelas, but underarmor and other companies make the same stuff.

+1 one a base layer...

I have bought the expensive ones from Cabela's...They work good but Wal Mart sells one just as good or better and for much less $$...Sometimes they dont stock them but I would think right now they would with hunting season just around the corner..

I don't remember a brand name but they are gray and are 50% polypro and 50% wool...

Stay away from cotton ...It doesnt insulate when wet/damp and takes for ever to dry...

Dress in layers, I use a base layer of Under Armour, but there are several other companies that have the same stuff and it is cheaper, over the base layer I use a light weight fleece shirt, with a good canvas shirt made by Cabelas, next is a fleece pullover and then the waterproof shell you have would be fine. This works for me and is not bulky with plenty of freedom to move around.

I just got the 100mph gear (Bibs and Jacket).. I cant wait until Winter to use it.. It seems like it will be warm enough with just shorts on and maybe a teeshirt and sweatshirt.... It doesnt get to cold here in so cal.... And being that it is windproof as well, it seems to me that thats all Ill need to wear under it....

FOR you guys that have the 100mph gear...what are your thoughts??

Up here in Mt. we wear that stuff most of the year, start off with a base layer like the underarmor, then add a layer of fleece, then your 100mph bibs and coat. That will get you through the first run in the morning. Mike

I have the 100mph bps gear...some of the best money i ever spent. It is really good stuff IMO

pete, you will still need something under them, unless you consider temp's. in the 30's not too cold...the fabric inside them gets pretty chilly on bare legs... i love mine, but i usually wear some nice sweats under them, if there gore tex no worries about sweating in them, better to be too warm than too cold just my 2 cents, and its a good time to buy some now with summer here

When it is extremely cold (Kosovo burrrrr....!), I've done well wearing a long underwear, fleece pants/sweater under military extreme foul weather gear. The long underwear/fleece combo under rain gear http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/store ... 0_100-14-0

has done well for me and never had issues with mobility.

Make sure to wear thick wool/thermolite socks, strap the ends of the pants and jacket. Cold feet=cold body.

The bib and jacket will run a little over $400 but it is well worth it. It has kept me warm during the extremely cold days. I fished my first tournament at Castaic in a January month. I knew it was gonna be cold and thought I could get away with jeans and a heavy snowboard type jacket and a sweater underneath! Wrong! When the wind blew, that cold air shot straight up my crotch and my nutts ran into my stomach (lol). As soon as I got home that day, I went on bassproshops and made the order. Couldn't have spent the money wiser.

*Warning! - Make sure you have a nice/long session in the urinal before putting all this on. lol. It is a mutha trying to take a piss.

From my time as an Infantrymen in the Army being Stationed at Ft Lewins where it rains every day and snows once and again even being deployed (yes the desert is cold as hell and it snows!!) You CANNOT beet polypropylene.

I was a white water rafting guide and rafted from march though october, and I still fish year around this is what I know:

1. Don't wear cotton
2. Wool is good but scratchy
3. Polypro fleese is good, but gets smelly
4. Always wear a wool cap and socks
5. Dress in layers.
