How in the world did this fish get in there or grow to that size? I was under the impression stripers couldn't survive in the lagoon.
Lagoon Striper?
Re: Lagoon Striper?
i saw the video on another fishing site. it looks like he actually caught the striper in the lagoon, but it could be possible someone from upper lake brought the fish down alive, put it on a hook and let it run ? i have heard rumors for years about stripers in the lagoon, im still wondering if this was some sort of a hoax video, just to start controversary ? or are their stripers in the lower lake ? butch brown should know, if anyone does !
Re: Lagoon Striper?
that fish had no life left! and the dude that kept saying want me to get the scale.....after the other guy said it would feed a couple families.....doesnt seem legit
Re: Lagoon Striper?
There has been reports of some bigger grade of striper from time to time in the lower lake over the years, I remember the lifeguards talking about seeing one or two years back.
But from the look of this staged video, notice how there are no faces being show, even the worst of cell phones these days take better movies than this.
If this was a true catch this would have been 10 pages already on the fishingnetwork.net by now, I'm call bullSh88 on this for being legit catch for the lower, what other site did you see the video on?

Re: Lagoon Striper?
That video looks like a crock of schtick to me. And as many know, the lifeguards on the goon aren't exactly that brilliant. Especially on the types of fish in there.
Not to crank on the 'guards, but when I'm standing on a bassboat with a tuna rod, chuckin' a footlong swimbait and they cruise by and ask me what I'm fishing for it arises questions.
Anyway, it's still not cool to even pretend to put a striper in that lake let alone do it. What if it came off their hook...? Screwed. Yet with zero trout stockings in there we're screwed anyway.
Please don't destroy the lagoon... anymore than our govt. has...

Re: Lagoon Striper?
the video looks bad for sure but talking to a couple of the locals there that throw the big baits they say they have seen a pack of DONKEY's in the lagoon....never caught them but seen them.
I think its possible they live in there.

Dave,
I saw this clip on a friend's Facebook wall. I suppose it may have been a hoax, but why someone would go through so much trouble is beyond my comprehension. Also, stripers die rather quickly (even in a livewell) and a striper of that size would be tough to bring down to the Lagoon from the upper lake. Personally, I don't know what to think of this clip. If they are in there, I hope the Lagoon's environment prevents them from reproducing.
On a side note, I've seen a kid catch a dinky striper at ECHO PARK. Yes, Echo Park! I have no idea how it got in there and how it survived, but it bit a tiny chartreuse grub on a leadhead. I was shocked to say the least.

Re: Lagoon Striper?
That's the Castaic lagoon for sure. I can tell even from the poor quality... you can see the camp area, dam, hills above the dam from their vantage point, and even the spillway. I know right where their standing and it's about fifteen feet from a parking lot where a stupid video could be pulled off in seconds still enabling a quick getaway.
Not to put you down 24/7... not at all. But I'd bet the crap farm it's Castaic lagoon pranksters. Meatheads.
