Good flipping/pitching reels
Good flipping/pitching reels
I would like some opinions on good flipping/pitchen reels. I do want a flipin switch, 100 to 200 price range, I have been using accurist, 521's and older shimano's. Time to replace these antiques.

Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
For flipping I really like that shimano castaic sf. Same frame as the green curado. If you want a reel the sits lower on our rod I would go with the new citica or curado. All of these reels are priced under 200 bucks. If you want to.spend a dollars more, I' d get a core mfg...

Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
why does it have to have a switch to be a flippin, pitchin reel? Switches and bars tend to be a weak link, and I personally avoid.
How a reel performs (casting), and feels in my hand is far more important to me.
I'm not at liberty to say anthing further. Just wait, I'm sure you guys will be impressed with ALL that is coming. I know I am, and I know what they are!

Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
I feel that at the end of the day I will have made more presentations to the fish utilizing the flipin switch and there is less chance that I will forget to lock the reel and set the hook in free spool. It all adds up to more time with bait in the water. It is small thing but the little things all add up and do make a difference.

That's exactly why there isnt just one reel to choose from. It's absolutely amazing the choices we now have compared to just 10 years ago,,,, Good luck in whatever you choose.

Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
The Ardent F700 is a great reel for flippin and pitchin, it is also a great reel for punching. It has 22 pounds of preset drag to get those fish out of the heavy cover fast, and stationary line guide so there is less friction when pitchin.
And it has a Flipin Switch.

Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
I really enjoy my Shimano Castaic's for pitching and flipping, the E7 does not have a flip switch but is great at getting that bait way out there too

Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
I use lefties and righties, for pitching and jigs the left handed reels are the best IMHO. For flipping the damn reel handel gets in the way, and the line gets looped up. So I either have to go completley vertical with the reel, uncombfortable.
But the Lefties for pitching with the flip bar is most excellent.

Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
Leon, glad to see you're picking up a rod again instead of a wrench,Still got the black Champion?.....and remember that black and yellow Mercury?
Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
ABU Garcia's 4600 series round reels, been using em fer 25+ years and I am NOT directly sponsored by ABU(I am on the Fenwick staff the past two years). Best buy around from $56-$85 depending on model purchased!
If ya like the low profiles, give the Revo Torro a try, it too fits yer price range. I actually own one of these and have been using it for the past two years for pitching/flippen the big Senkos.

Allright, this is got to be Gary or Bugs, nobody else still living knows that much about that Merc and its transmissions. I wish I knew as much about fishing as that car taught me about auto repair.

Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
I just got a Ardent 700 and am really impressed with it. I have 4 Castic's which I love but the Ardent does pitch a bit further. Go on the internet and you can find some great deals on them.

Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
I just came into a Quantum Accurist AC500CX with a flippin switch, how does that work? May sound stupid but I have never had a reel with a switch before?
Re: Good flipping/pitching reels
Never really liked flipping switches, but to use:drdetroit3 wrote:I just came into a Quantum Accurist AC500CX with a flippin switch, how does that work? May sound stupid but I have never had a reel with a switch before?
1. Switch the lever to the flipping position and leave it there.
2. Depress the thumb bar and keep it down while you draw out enough line to make your flip.
3. Release pressure on the thumbar to return reel to its "gears engaged" state.
4. Keep flipping until you need to draw out a different length of line.
A flipping switch just lets you re-engage the gears without having to use your other hand (the hand drawing/holding the line) to turn the handle.
