Some of you Northern Ca guys, give me your opinion here. A buddy of mine works in the Bay area 3 days a week, (Tues, Wed, Thurs), flying down from his home in Washington to work as an auctioneer. Next week, I'm bringing his son, who has never really fished for bass, with me and we're driving down to meet his dad to fish the Delta on Friday, and through the weekend. His son and I are going to have 2 days to ourselves to fish the lakes of our choice, (Wed and Thurs).
I'm looking at the weather reports, and it looks like we'll be in a showery trend next week. I know we could stop and fish Shasta on Wednesday, and probably catch 60 plus cookie cutter fish. That'd be fun and all, but another option is to just continue down and fish Clear Lake both days before meeting up with his dad. My gut tells me that a little cloud cover and showery weather could really turn the bite on at Clear.
I guess what I'm asking is, what would you guys do? Do you think the bite will stay hot at Clear, or do you think the rain will drive the fish back to deeper water after the recent warming trend?
Where to fish???
Re: Where to fish???
I live in the center, Shasta to the North and Clearlake to the Southwest, Wed. and Thurs. are excellent days to be on Clearlake this time of year. Chance to catch one that will eat the cookie cutters

" son, who has never really fished for bass..."--tells me he would most enjoy a day of those 60 cookie cutter fish.

You will start to find cookie cutter males moving up all over clearlake right now too. It is hard for some people to fish that deeper water when they first start out.
I would say go to clearlake. He may have beginers luck on his side and land a monster fish, or maybe just a bunch of small males, either way it should be fun!!
Good Luck

Thanks guys. I think we'll hit Shasta on Wednesday, then get a full day on Clear Lake on Thursday. Best of both worlds.
