Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
Pulled a stupid move today and didn't strap one of my setups down next to the passenger seat.
Lost it somewhere between big break and bethel island, it wasn't a top dollar, but it was still good.
It's a zebco baitcaster medium zebco rod carolina rigged with a punch skirt and sweet beaver.
Who knows maybe still bobbing around out there.
Won't do that again. Live and learn

Don't feel too bad. It has happened to alot of us. Mine was at the Future Pro Tour Classic last year and it was a St Croix Avid Rod with a Shimano Stradic reel with a fish on it!!! OUCH that hurt!! Come on everyone, lets hear your stories!!!
Re: Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
Was draggin a carolina rig at folsom couple years ago. Set it down to do something, went back to pick it up, it was gone.
I knew about where it was, so I went back the next day with a mask and snorkel. Did a methodical search and found it in about 25 feet.
Had a triple trout snap off on the swing, same thing, found it the next day. Weather was horrible and cold with 2 foot chop.

I lost a rig the same way. Kistler LTX II 7'11" flippin stick with a Shimano JDM Aldeberan that had Shooter Metan fluoro on it. A little over $800.00 gone in over 60' of water.

I lost a brand new Loomis Spinnerbait rod and Curado 100 Reel while unhooking a 20lb salmon last summer on the feather river... went to unhook the fish and it decided otherwise. You never seen a fish rip a rod out of your hand so fast Well $500 donated to the cause

I've lost two rods. Both at McClure, one I just didn't strap down and overboard she went. the other i was throwin a jig, and it was one of those really cold windy days, hands totally numb. Went to set the hook on a fish and the rod literally sling-shotted out of my hands. P.S. both rods were St.Croix Legend Elites with Abu Garcia Revo SX's on em! That hurts!

I had a Powell rod with a Curado 201 on it go overboard in cruizers heaven. Had the rod laying on the deck with the bait hanging over the side of the boat, The bait must have been touching the water becuase I just heard a huge blowup next to the baot and my rod went flying in the water.... Gone
Re: Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
Well I don't fill as bad now at least it's happened before I came along.
I just got to get use to fishing from a bass boat, I have always had V-bottom boats and they have high sides so most everything stays in.
My most depressing part of the day was at home yesterday backing the boat into the side yard I cranked the steering wheel around too early and put the drivers door of my tahoe into the fire hydrand causeing a nice crease in it.
Two stupid moves in on day!!!!!!!

Re: Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
I've told the following story on this site before:
I was with my regular fishing buddy when he bought a $1,000 Gloomis rod and Shimano reel outfit at the fishing show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.
The following week, we were fishing in back part of Sycamore Slough. We just got there and the outfit hadn't seen any action yet. As he was moving to the front of the boat, he lost his balance and dropped the outfit as he tried to regain his balance. Of course, the outfit went overboard. That day and on each trip for the next couple of weeks, we dragged the bottom but couldn't snag the outfit.
About a month later, I was fishing Sycamore with my cousin and my regular fishing buddy calls me on my cell phone and said that he hired a diver for $250 to find the outfit. I told him that I was fishing close to the area where he lost the outfit and would stay there until he got there. After an hour, I see his boat coming up the slough and stops about 50 yards short of where I was fishing. The diver goes overboard. I called my buddy and told him that I was fishing over the spot where he lost the outfit. He moves down to where I was fishing and the diver finds the outfit on his first dive.
About a year later, I was still laughing about his lost rod whenever we fished that area and he told me that he had dropped the rod overboard a second time and paid another $250 to have a diver retrieve it. I don't what it is with my regular fishing buddy but he drops about a rod overboard almost every year.
Last year, he drops one of Gloomis/Shimano outfits overboard while unhooking a fish during high tide on the Mokeloumne. It was close to shore so I figured that it was probably on the bottom where it went overboard. We went back at low tide. The water cleared up and I could about 8 ft down with my polarized glasses. I saw something shining on the bottom so I got out one of my larger Rat L Traps and dragged the bottom with it. Bottomline, it was his outfit and I was able to snag it and get it back to him. He paid me back with a free lunch on each of our subsequent trips.

Welcome to the club!
Re: Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
I was trolling for stipers at O'Neil Forebay when my dads rod doubled over. He had hooked a 10' surf rod and reel. He cleaned it up and the reel works just fine. We also snagged a big landing net trolling in Franks.
Re: Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
Went on a camping trip with the family to mcclure and brought my lamiglas tournament frog rod/shimano curado with me for fun. Had it sitting on top of the canopy on the mastercraft(not the smartest place to have it in the first place) and when mother nature decided to blow the wind bye bye rod. First rod i ever bought too. O well life moves on.
Re: Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
Lost an abu salmon rig in alaska, I was fishing with cut herring and my hands were slick. a big coho hit and that was the end of that rod. Lost one few years back fishing for Cats. two hits on the bait and while I was running to grab the rod it flew in to the water. must have been a nice one. My best friend and i were headed to a little bass pond and had about $2000 in fly and casting gear in the back.. pointed the rods the wrong way out of the bed of the truck and somewhere along that road they flew out never to be seen again. also snagged a couple ultra light setups off the bottom of antelope lake last year.

I lost one two weeks ago and basically gave up hope.....Told my buddy turn round let me take a second look.....Saw nothing....Said F it and as soon as I turned to "freshen up" saw the tip of the rod sticking out of the water bout 1/2 inch.

Re: Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
i bought my first ever bass boat two springs ago. on my first trip out with my buddy/instructor i was "hauling" across frank's tract when my steez/steez fell overboard. my buddy was yelling at me about it. i thought he was just kidding until i looked down on the deck and saw my outfit gone. by the time i was able to slow down i was hundreds of yards away from where i had lost the outfit. AMAZINGLY, though, i found the dang thing (it was floating butt up) ....... nearly $1000 saved!!!!
Re: Lost rod & reel setup on Delta today
I was fishing at lake Perris and caught a rod on a jig. There was man fishing from an alum boat about 100 feet from me, he said he had lost a rod the month before in the area and named the rod and reel so I gave it back to him, it sure made his day.
