Think the FLW contingency programs work?

Post by Rick G »

140 boats at Shasta. 104 Rangers. About 75% is what it looks like to me. Maybe Irwin wasn't too crazy. Pretty impressive you have to admit. Rick G.

Not to disagree Rick but, I am not sure that its the contingency money. I am pretty sure even at Non-FLW events Ranger has quite a few more boats in the vent than the others.

As you know as either the biggest or one of the biggest Ranger dealers in the world - Rangers are the #1 selling boat.

One thing is for sure - contingency money is definitely helping them stay #1.

Lets see in 5 years or even 10 the numbers of Rangers versus others. I personally see Ranger pricing themselves out of existence. JMO

Always more Rangers in those events, always will be, let see how many total boats they draw buy the third tourney, less than 90 I bet.

Its like that at almost all FLW events. Irwin did do a great job at making a OWNERS tour. But if you go back east and fish the Weekend series or BASS opens Triton, Skeeter and Bass Cat make up 80% of the field. .The weekend series in the south east regions pull 100-150 boats and usually 100 or so are Triton's. But then again the purse is the same for everyone (makes you wonder)..

Out here its Ranger due to whats available, FLW. And in order to win the FULL purse you need a RANGER. So I think Irwins plan did work if you dont count the 100,000,000 dollar BK that lost hundreds of people jobs...Then he did great...

Really makes you wonder when someone can BK 100,000,000 and make 75,000,000 a year in another business and not lose $1 of it.

Then partner on a 6 million dollar business for cash. In all fairness it is 75 million in REVENUES not profit. Still must have been some profit to buy the other business.

Business is business, you guys make me laugh.. Irwin is in it for profit, not to make friends...get over it..

Ranger makes a great boat so no one is hurt by contingency programs..I would rather have my Ranger than any other boat on the water..and yes I have ridden in them all..Triton doesn't come close.. the anglers in the East and Southeast run Tritons for the price not the boat..Triton does have a sponsorship program back there that they don't offer in the West..so why is that? It becomes apples and oranges...

JT,

What are you talking about, Triton GOLD is on the west too. And people do not buy them because they are cheaper, in fact their just as over priced as your lead sled. I too have been in the newer Rangers, and I can say Triton builds a superior boat thats not only faster, more fuel efficiant and better in big water. But that would be my own opinion that I dont put on anyone. But you Ranger folk have some good cool aid and if you have to talk smack thats cool too.

P.S. Whats the saying???? Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one....

Ohh and for your resale come back..

2008 Ranger Z21 DC w/250 (no adds) NADA Sugg Orig Retail $56,230
Low book=$32,230 (dif $24,000)
2008 Triton 21X3 DC w/250 (no adds) NADA sugg Orig Retail

Low book=$28,570 (dif $23,284)

I dont understand why I have an e-mail this morning from FLW about the contingency program.

Is becouse I own a Ranger with an Evinrude on it? I dont belong to FLW nor do I fish tournaments at all. My boat is 10 year's old and I thought they had to be a certain year or newer?

Oh maybe they want me to buy a new one

PS:Why is faster better :?:

What the program has done, like it or not, is help the dealers still sell boats in this tuff economy, as evidenced by the fact that really besides Nixons and Bob's there are very few bassboat dealers left out here that DONT sell Rangers. It is not about who's is better, its about who's marketing is stronger to the derby angler. Rick G.

Rick,

Thats true to a point, but I saw just as many Genmar dealers shut the doors over all this. 2 of the biggest Ranger dealers in FL shut their doors last year and 1 is about too. It has hit everyone just as equally, that is unless your floorplan is covered..

And Nitros will soon see light, the recent price decrease. 9k off Z-9, 7500 off Z-8 and so on. You can now buy a Z-8 w/200 Pro XS $29k 32k w/225 pro xs. This IS messing with the top brand pricing and should cause prices to work with the current economy...

I'd have to agree with you to a point. In my business as well as many, people are more willing now to sacrafice QUALITY to save some amount of $. Just remember YOU DO GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and in the end whether it's re-sale or repairs, it WILL cost the same! And I'm with someguy.....CHAMPION makes the best boats!!!! :D

Have any of you fellow bass fisherman and women bought chicken, Pork or Beef at the freakin grocery store lately?

IT IS ALL MORE EXPENSIVE NOW!!!, Two years ago I would go to do the grocery shopping for the wife and I and I was out the door for say $120.00 meals for both all week!!! Now it's $260.00 or more and I only get Meat for the weekends!!

Qiut bashing Ranger, it is and always has been the best built quality boat on the market!!! **** I bought a Nitro from Grover in 2001 drove all the way from Sacto. to get it because Greg G. did what KB does sold me on a brand.

I gaurantee you that KB would still be pushing and running Rangers if it were not for a fallout somewhere not in our realm!!

But the Ranger bashing is silly everything is overpriced for quality anymore!!!

Yes I have been Running a few brand new Rangers the last 6 years by choice and because it is the best out there!!
Four Decades of Red!!!!!!!!

I'm not bashing Rangers, just showing that other people have their own opinions. I'm glad "YOU" love your boat, but in no way does it mean its the best because "YOU" think its built better. I hope you keep buying them, In fact I hope everyone keeps buying what they love. It will keep the shops open, me employed and competition strong (which gives us good products)....

I'm neither bashing nor on Ranger's side... just my opinions. I personally ride in a Legend and love it. But Ranger is the #1 selling boat brand and as far as I know - always has been - every year since bass boats were made.

My point wasn't who's boat is better

Post by Rick G »

everybody likes what they like, just that with all the Irwin, FLW bashing that goes on here, his plan all the time was to drive boat sales to his company, and with the Shasta #'s it looked like it worked. That was my point all along. Even saw a Legend National ad on Bassmasters ESPN show the other day. Gotta get out and market your brand to be on top IMHO. Rick G.

You know BigBass111 for a nobody you sure think your opinion is better than anyone else..

You instantly go for the personal attack..what are you hiding from.. try and sell your Triton or whatever you own, against a Ranger and the asking price will crash here on the Best coast, the West.. I just finished looking for and buying a new boat and the tritons were very soft on their price. the RESALE of your triton sucks..the list price has nothing to do with the real price..
just my humble opinion.

Never had a problem selling one of my Champion or Ranger boats. The main reason I bought Ranger in my last boat was the resale value. Jacobs may have messed that up a bit in the last few years but it hasn't messed up the desirability aspect. Even in this crappy market I have a buyer for my boat at my price. BTW it is MORE than the NADA value.

I don't have a problem with any of them..Triton,Ranger, Basscat, Champion or whatever. They all have their good and not so good...
On this coast Ranger rocks. it is what it is and RickG does a good job with his boat dealership.. I just can't understand why a guy who lives on the other coast is always bashing us out here on the good coast..he's always bashing someone..

Justin lives here  He grew up here, moved to Florida for a while then moved back. I do have to say I like many of the brands as well but when you put as much in to these boats as you do now it is definitely an investment. Maybe not the best but I still want to lose as little as possible. IMO Rick has done more to protect my brand choice than Irwin.

I have a 519 that will smoke most wobbly triton on any water. As for the rough water, you cant beat a ranger or champion, I've had both. What about the resale? Why would you buy a triton for the same price you can get a Ranger. It's like buying a Hyundai for the price of a Mercedes.

Wow, thats funny...Again you Ranger guys are something else....

How do you guys sleep at night thinking your all so special..

I guess you win, your 519 can pass all Tritons while we wobble off the lake.. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA It just shows your true boating expierience which is apparently ZIP. Have a nice day and keep dreaming strong because you are king of the mountain...

But if you would just take one ride with me I think you would be proven wrong..02.cents

Ohh and 619 "AKA" Art...Are the banks somehow allowing you more on used floor plan with Rangers??????? I don't think so bro, it books the same as the Nitro's sitting next to it. We took in a Ranger and she was hit 20 back just like the Wellcraft I just took in. And you know how NADA works, you've been selling boats long enough..

Jeesh cmon guys! Hyundai against a Mercedes, a 519 that will smoke any Triton on any water.

Ranger builds some great boats and they are struggling to sell boats like everybody else. I think if you own whatever boat you should believe in it right up to the point where you bash another boat brand that you don't have a clue about.

Annonybass that 519 has seperated your brain from your spinal cord and yes Ranger builds some good riding boats the 519 aint one of them it is no secret, good fishing platform not the best ride. I had 7 of them so yes I am talking from experience. Now for that blow any Triton away with your 519.........name the lake, name the time and bring your happy *** and your wallet and I will be there.

Buy the best boat that fits your budget, your needs and the boat that when you idle away from the dock you really really like to be in but the bottom line is just buy a new boat all the dealers need the business.

bigbass111, It's not what the banks alow is what I'm saying. Do some research and find out how the Nada guide itself gets it's info. Where does the NADA guide online and the hard copies get there numbers.

We use the NADA guide as a tool but I have lost deal's before by relying on it.

What Model Ranger do you have for sale and how much?

I'm not bagging on your Tritanic. But I would get a Merc next time.

I knew I'd get a rise out of you guys. I didn't say all tritons, I said most. I've smoked a lot of boats on blast off but seriously, for some reason, its a fast boat. I've only gps it for 76.7 mph so I know a lot are faster. But not same size boats.

I don't really care to much about brand, my old 1975 glasstron converted to somewhat of a bass boat got me on the water and won me some money. I just wanted to see why there was a prejudice against one boat or the other. Hope I didn't hurt your feelings.

Art,

My last 7 demo's in FL had Merc's, and yes my personal boat that only has 140 hrs(2003 model that I only used maybe 10 times in 4 yrs) has a Honda. The only reason I went with Honda was the deal I got from the rep back when we all thought 4 strokes were inevidable in so cal. And frankly no matter how much I loved all my Merc's that Honda has really been great. I will miss its fuel bill and no need for oil fills. But the fun in running the 250 Pro XS on the back of a 20 and 21 pushing 80 is a thrill and joy to run...

And I'm with KB on this, your 519 has no chance with the same size Triton or bigger (HP too). And I appreciate the fact you love your Ranger as much as everyone like's their brand...

One thing that everyone seems to be missing is that the quality of your dealer is also important in resale and trade value. I use Priester at Nixon's Marine as do most of the guys up here. I love my Triton but think that the Rangers are a sweet boat also. But I also know that when I have problems Priester will take care of it no questions asked and when I trade in he will be very fair because that is one of the reasons he has such strong customer loyalty. If he was selling Rangers or Champions, we would all probably be driving them. They are all top of the line boats that will perform as well as any angler can expect.

With what has occured with the economy all of us boat owners have taken a kick in the N*** but there is nothing we can do about it.
