I think Basstravler started it to get a upperhand on the compitition.

I don't really know about the banana and fishing, but I do know that Banana's and Peanuts have been bad luck in racing for a very long time.

Try googling banannas and fishing. There are a few stories. Some love them, some hate them. Just never bring one on my boat.

The story I've heard is that the oils in the banana skins would get on the hands of the fishermen and that the fish could detect that and not bite and therefore bananas became 'bad luck'.

could just be folklore, but thats the story that I've heard...

All I know is...the one and only time I brought a banana on the boat...my own boat mind you...my non boater goes pscycho on me...next thing I know my trolling motor eats my line and I loose my hook/weight/worm. I've decided they aren't good for the boat.....

I am not superstitious but this last summer my buddy brought a bunch of banans fishing with us and this is what happened. Running to the first spot, FLIP, my favorite hat blows off my head and sinks. Then we get to our first spot and I pull my jig rod out of the locker and PLOOP, my reel falls off into the slough. Later after fishing for only an hour or so, SNAP, my trolling motor steering cable breaks. Because of that day I am a firm believer in the curse of the banana.

I think Ranger boat owners like to bring them onboard. Don't know why, but I've heard their boats referred to as "Monkey Boats"!!! Maybe a "Planet Of the Apes" edition Fish-Hed is in order!!!!!!! 8)

This is what fishing partner found on the net and sent me last year not sure where the URL is:

NO BANANAS - It may be an old wives tale, but it's a fact that Bananas are bad Luck on a fishing charter boat. History tells us that this tale originated from early years when boats with Bananas in the cargo, ran aground, got lost at sea, or lost many of their crew members to a deadly sickness. Further investigation indicated that the bananas were prone carry to the deadly tarantula spiders. Today, I believe the bananas are safe, but just to make sure that we have great day on the bay, let's leave the bananas home.

I personally have experienced the curse of the banana on more than one occasion in the ocean and fell victim to it in someone’s bass boat last summer. So I now do full boat inspections for bananas prior to fishing a tournament.
Dewayne a voodoo doll is good (I keep one by my desk at work) but I have been planning a larger scale Revenge of the Banana Curse for the next rally and I’m hoping you’ll help me with my plan. Watch out Bass Traveler and your partner in crime….Angel, bananas will be coming your way. Jenny

I remember when my Mom put a banana in my school lunch everything would smell or taste a little like banana. I mean everything....LOL. Maybe there is a little that gets on us or the baits and or the boat. If Bass were to like the smell or taste I am sure we would have a banana sent by now LOL! I think I will go with the flow on the banana thing

BANANA IN BOAT

Post by BassTraveler »

The banana has to be well ripened to have the curse work properly. Wait until it starts to turn and fruit flies are falling dead due to the smell.
Just because you non-believers think it doesn't work.
Question...have you ever had a day where everthing went wrong and there was no banana in site?
Delayed banana response.
Yes, sometimes it takes time for the curse to set in.
If you eat a fresh banana or two on a beautiful day out and the fish bite is good. It might take until the next day for things to start turning. Maybe even a few weeks.
The next time your out and you lose that 10 plus or you break one off at the boat...that counted. Think...when's the last time you had a banana in the boat.
The only way to get the banana stench out of the boat is to cover yourself with garlic smelly jelly. 8)

Let me tell you a story and anyone that has draw me can concure.....No banana`s in my boat.....I was in Hawaii in 92 when I charter a Marlin boat for the day and when I showed up the captain (before he let me on the boat) went thru all of my gear and lunch. I asked him what are you doing and he told me he was making sure that I didn`t have any banana`s they where bad luck.... This is an old Hawian superstition... So eversince that trip I`ve never had a banana in my boat............ :)

I never heard of the bananna curse till I read it here. Tomorrow is my first tournament of the year. I'm all packed, lunch is prepared, (I'm supersticious and take a tuna sandwich every time, nothing else).
Now my wife comes in and says take this with you (A BANANNA), a sandwich is not enough, what do I do.
help me please.
Bill

Dude dont take it. In the morning when you leave put on some leter gloves and throw that disgusting thing away in the outside garbage can. What ever you do, do not take it on the boat. Hope this helps.

The banana curse is all mental  If you let in your head, guess what  The first time I had someone with bananas in the boat, guess what, we one the tournament  It is only food...but then again, if you brought a fresh bunch straight from the little lattitudes that could be laced with them deadly black tarantulas, you can keep 'em all to yourself  I have already been bitten by a black widow  in a boat...don't need no more stinkin' spider bites :!:

Pretty much the only thing not allowed in my boat is greasy, orange Cheetos or similar muchies. :?

Ya believe what ya believe, you have bananas on the boat you catch fish, great…I don’t. But I promise there’s going to be a current top nut, a past top nut, a past big nut, and a few other nuts going that are not going to have a good rally.
And by the way, Ken, while I would never have a “trophyâ€
