Absolutley better, the first Won event that I fished was a mere 46% payback on the AM side. It was my last only because of that reason. They put on a really good tournament, the only thing lacking was the AAA payback. Now that they have it, we'll see what happens. Good Luck to all.

With the Ams now part of the options pools, ams can get a heck of a nice check if they are in the options and finish toward the top.
Guys, stay tuned!! More to come!!

nice payback as far as I see. It is still a guide trip at a cheap cost if you think about it. The payback sure has jumped up some since I fished it way back when as an am.

When you say they have the "newspaper" (WESTERN OUTDOOR NEWS) think for a moment just what you're saying. This "newspaper" has the reach, clout and history of leadership in the outdoor sports market that is second to non Without question, that "newspaper" is one if not the most powerful outdoor sports publication in America.
Take as examples, the Fred Hall Tackle Shows or the Bass-a-thons. Those shows in part were built on the reach and clout of that "newspaper".
Add to that the thousands upon thousands of fishermen that flock to high country trout promotions, striper derbies, long range fishing trips, tournaments and the such based upon what they read and see in that "newspaper".. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent by sponsors and advertisers annually to be in that "newspaper". There is a reason: That "newspaper" reaches over 100,000 readers each week. Those are readers that are not only participate in the sport, but are the industry of the sport. No other organizations in the southwest combined can even begin to reach that many readers.
Now for the bass fishermen, the record of Western Bass (of old) and WON BASS is unequaled in bringing fame and fortune to once everyday fishermen like Gary Klein, Mike Folkstad, Dean Rojas, Dee Thomas, Gary Dobyns, Dave Gliebe, and a list of others. They will all tell you where they got their start and how their careers were launched; by that "newspaper". Not one of the top Western pros has been brought into the national spotlight by any other organization like that "newspaper" has. Each and every one of them got their start (sponsorships, etc) from the publicity given them by that "newspaper". No one else.
Don't discount the effect that "newspaper" has. Appearing on the cover or within its pages is gold to a fisherman and for that matter, their sponsors. After the tournament money is long gone and spent, those images and articles on fishermen that appear in that "newspaper",are what really pays the bills.

Re: WON Bass Pro/Am Purse on the Am side
JJCJR is right more than you guys can imagine!! I'm shocked that so few "pro" or "semi-pro" anglers take advantage of this great opportunity to make impressions....over a hundred thousand impressions....by simply submitting good quality photos to the editors of WON.
Look guys...WON is a weekly publication that is anywhere from 24 Tabloid pages to over 100 pages. The need for good photos is HUGE and you guys just don't seem to get it.
Getting your mug on the pages of WON has more potential value than most of you realize. It means everything when you are trying to build up a portfolio that will that will differentiate you from all the other anglers out there. It is TANGIBLE EVIDENCE that you understand the importance of making impressions...and shows that you can get your sponsors some good press...which increases your value to them.
WON and WON Bass have the largest reach of any publication of it's kind here in the west. It's all about the circulation guys! The fact that nearly 70,000 readers pay $34.95 per year is also a strong statement as this is one of the highest subscription rates in the industry...so, the industry regards WON's readers as VERY serious sportsmen.
It doesn't take a 1st place finish to get your sponsors some ink... It takes a good photo and well written caption.
Hint: look at the WON Bass tournament schedule. If you see that there is a tournament on the Delta Feb 5 & 6th...you might want to send Rich Holland (WON Bass Editor) some good pics with captions from the Delta a month ahead of time. This goes for AAA's too! Anyone has a good chance of getting their photos published. More to come on this topic.

Re: WON Bass Pro/Am Purse on the Am side
I find it interesting that people analyze the payback on the AAA side so much. If your fishing to make money from the AAA side, it's just not going to happen.
The AAA side is for fun, experience, folks that don't have boats, meeting new people and I am sure many other things, but money is not one of them. That is my opinion.
I hardy ever see folks analyze other things like cars, homes, food, fishing tackle etc, etc like they do with these tournament trails. Can you image if folks analyzed these other things better how their finances would be? BETTER! It's not always what you make, it's also what you save!
This payback isn't directed at any one person, it's just something that comes up more than I think it should. If you want to fish for $$, fish from the front of the boat! Pre-fish, find your own fish and good luck!
Just my .02!
