Best driest and warmest boots

Post by Par »

It's time for me to upgrade to a decent pair of warm, waterproof, non scuffing boots for this winter. What are you folks wearing and what would you recommend?
Thanks,

I wear seal skin water proof socks. You can throw on some thermal socks underneath for added warmth if you like and then wear regular tennis shoes over the top. I like them them because they are not akward in the boat like boots can be and they are as dry as anything.

When I lived in Northern Illinois and worked outside in the rain and snow the best bet was Red Wing insulated. Good to -15 with one pair of wool socks. Nice and cozy. Not sure if I would go that route in a boat God forbid you should go over board. They might be a little heavy.

I just bought a pair of Wolverines from BAss Pro for around $130, very light weight, I think I got the 8" high model. Insulated, very comfy for me and I am severly flat footed!

I have owned Danner, Red Wings and Wolverines and Rocky.

I loved the Danner and Red Wings and very very impressed with the Wolverines so far!

A pair of Seal Skinz inside Muck boots. The Muck boots are like wearing slippers.

I love the Danner Radical series.. you can even wear them out to dinner.. they don't look too bad. On cold cold days though, I think I'll opt for some better wool socks, cause your toes can get pretty frosty.

HI-TEC 41100 Altitude IV. -- But they are not expensive.

3 years in this this same boot for fishing and work at the same time.

Time for another pair as the inner linner plastic sheath - is starting to rip my socks above the heal. But mostly on my part because I do not relace them and just wiggle/slip my foot into them.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

I'll second the Mucks. Problem with me for tennis shoes or any other leather and gortex is when they get wet they become heavy and stay cold.

The Seal Skinz will be bulkier than regular socks. The Muck boots I bought were one size bigger than my normal shoes

I just got a pair of Redhead Osage II boots from Bass Pro. These are my second pair and the are the warmest most comfortable boots I have ever worn. I have a fused right ankle so I need some ankle support and these are great. I wont ever own anything else.

It looks like sealskinz has 4 choices of socks.
Which ones do you folks have?

get two pair, one regular and one insulated. Wear the insulated ones when it is really cold.

mucks all the way. They are just like slippers. I have a pair with just the plain sole, not much traction, good for the boat. And I have a pair with lug soles that are a little more firm and add stability but also will track debris in the boat with you. And they are warm. A pair of wool socks, under armour base, lined jogging pants, muck boots, rain gear= all day comfort.
