Looks like some sort of a Goby / Sculpin cross breed. what in the heck is that big bulge in the stomach area? Looks like another head trying to grow.

Thats about as close as I can find to what you have in the photos. It does appear to be some sort of Goby species.

Yeah, that's a goby. Not sure on the specific species though. When I was a kid I used to catch those all the time on the Delta around rocks with just a small piece of night crawler. Then I'd rig it up as bait for stripers. They sell them live at a lot of tackle shops for the striper fisherman. A lot of the party boats use them too...pretty popular bait out there.

Mudsucker!! That there is one of the best baits for Striper other that the Bullhead. Yes, I guess the correct name would be a goby.

It was about 6-8 inches long, you could see clear through it's body and it had bulging eyes.

Could it be a slimy sculpin?

<img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_RMu8nr3bqQM/SwGdO ... culpin.jpg" /></img>

We got it off the hook and threw it the hell back. This thing gave me the hee bee gee bees.

Next time it's getting used as bait!

Thanks for the replies :D

Uhm, don't think there's any further question - this is a DFG Biologist folks, so I'd believe him to be an authoratative source...

Thanks for responding Quinn - hope things are going well for you down there?

I'd agree with the yellow fin goby idea.
