Obama takes aim at Hunters & Fishermen

Post by Bill Hutcheson »

Sportsmen are needed to help prevent the confirmation of Cass Sunstein as President Obama's head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA).

Because this position has oversight of regulations including those that impact hunting and fishing, sportsmen have reason to be concerned about the nominee’s stated views that hunting be banned if its only value is that of recreation. Concerns should be heightened by the fact that this political appointee has openly advocated for animals to have the right to sue in a court of law.

There appear to be many in the Obama administration with similar viewpoints. It is common knowledge that Attorney General Eric Holder is a champion for gun control. Also with sordid conservation pasts are Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack who vetoed a bill to allow dove hunting when governor of Iowa and Lisa Jackson, head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, who worked overtime as a New Jersey bureaucrat to stop bear hunting in the state.

But Mr. Sunstein would be even more dangerous as he would have ability to intervene in decisions regarding the rights of Americans to hunt, fish and trap by virtue of his position as "regulations czar."

For that reason, sportsmen immediately need to contact their U.S. Senators and ask that they oppose this confirmation.

If sportsmen and the organizations they belong to do not want to see an animal rightist having control over regulations that impact hunting and fishing, they are going to need to contact their Senators and make that viewpoint known.

If Senators in the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus are looking for an issue that demonstrates their support for hunting, this is it. Voting "No" on this nomination would send a clear message to an administration that pledged moderation that opponents of hunting do not represent a moderate view.

The American public supports regulated hunting. It is the cornerstone of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. This model, the envy of the world, has seen wildlife populations rebound and explode all over the country as a result of the billions of dollars invested in professional wildlife management over the last 100 plus years.

"This may be a long shot," admits Rob Sexton, Vice President for Government Affairs for the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA). "But we can't just lie down and let the Senate give a free pass to a person who could do real damage to our hunting heritage."

Take Action- The USSA is calling on all sportsmen across the U.S. to contact their two individual senators and urge them to vote no on this confirmation. Tell them that Sunstein has made public his views against a traditional way of life.

This can be done by visiting the Legislative Action Center at www.ussportsmen.org where you can receive additional talking points and send a message directly to your senator’s office.

Additionally, with the Senate recessing through the month of August it is imperative to contact your Senators while they are in their home districts and before the expected confirmation vote next month.

I knew it would happen sooner or later. At this point we can only hope that he is only in office for one term.

I think this amounts to a backdoor means of gun control . Because sporting arms are legal for the purpose of hunting it would be hard to restrict them due to the popularity of the sport .
However if hunting were to be outlawed then there would be no justification for owning sporting firearms opening the door for a total ban on owning guns.

Now let me get this straight – you want me to contact my two Senators, Boxer and Feinstein two of the most antigun senators in congress and tell them what? Not to support Obama pick because we are going to vote them out of office? Like they are really scared of that!

The problem is that people only get involved when it affects them – Now people are just waking up to how California and our Nation has been going down hill for over 20 years! Boxer and Feinstein should already know how we feel – we need to vote them out of office – we need to vote of someone else at the next election.

First they came after the babies to abort them saying it is a woman right!
Then they say it is alright to put a penis up man anis and you say as long they do it behind close doors, it’s alright, and it’s their right.
Then they come after the old saying it is alright to end you life, it is best for all and everyone says that is the humane way.
Then they say CO2 is bad and you go along with it.

Now they are coming for our guns, hunting, and fishing! Did I say that too mean spirited! Well that is what we have to get - mean spirited because they will end up taking you spirit away from you.

Well this should end this tread!

Marty, I don't think Bill was talking only to you. And I can probibly bet that Bill did not vote for Obama,Fienstien or Boxer. The problem will be is that there are not to many senators that are willing to stand up to Obama or to stop Sunstien from becomming the newest Czar. There were a couple senators(R) that Qed his appointment but after recieving some letters from Sunstein stating that he would not try to push his agenda did they drop their objections. This guy (Sunstein) is a total nut case and if these republicians believe anything this guys says they are crazy. I for one have been trying to warn people about this guy for about 5 months now. He is so far out of wack that most people don't believe what I tell them. Don't really think anyone is going to be able to stop this one and once he becomes a Czar he will only answer to Obama himself and no one else. As for the state of the sitsuation in your state Marty, trust me when I say Washington is not that far off as long as we have people like Sen Patty Murray and Gov Gregweir(spelling).

Man I could have gone a life time without hearing those 2 names today Marty.

I think that Obama has shown us that he doesn't view the traditional way of life that most Americans live as the model for his administration. The Senate is controlled by Dems and if the President wants this person confirmed it is probably a done deal.

Also, if you live in California you have no Senator who will listen to you on this issue. We live in a political climate of liberalism in our Golden State.

It's funny that liberals are liberal about everything but liberty. I hope that we are starting to realize that our liberties are being eroded by this administration and all of those who are being appointed to positions of authority without any over site by anyone but the President. 44 Czars at present with probably more on the way.

Look at the post about the Cal Water Forum article by Dan Bacher of the Fish Sniffer if you want to see our state government in action.

Anyone that reelects any Senator, Congressman, or State legislator needs to be tared and feathered! I knew this head idiot in the white house was going to really screw things up!

Boxer and Feinstein are two idiots that just dont get it when it comes to gun control. Once they ban guns the criminals will have a hay day!

Pelosi is the next witch on the list. Let me change that. She is the head witch we need to can as soon as possible.

As Dan put it! You can have my guns when you can pry them from my cold dead hands!

Oh I bet the NRA is going to go ballistic.

Darn Marty - I didn't mean to piss in your canteen.

Your post is right on though. Our legislators have heads that are so hard, they register about a 64 on the Rockwell hardness scale.

The only way to get through to these elitist idiots is to overwhelm them with calls, e-mails, faxes, etc.... Make it so that they cannot possibly do thier job due to the overwhelming amount of incoming correspondance and communications that they have to deal with.

Remember the illegal alien bill a few years back? Groundswell grass roots efforts overwhelmed Washington DC to the point that the switchboards were shut down. As the end result of the pressure from common folk, the bill got axed. This technique has been proven time and time again and I would offer you what is happening with the town hall meetings and those opposed to the wonderous health care bills that this administration is trying to foist upon the unwilling American people. They are getting slammed and it is getting thier attention!

Marty, I agree with you in every aspect. Few out there with more than three marbles rattling around in thier head would know by my history of posts that I am a gun totin' John Wayne conservative who calls B@#$S@#T when he sees it. My simple point here was that even though Boxer & Feinstein are hypocritical idiots, we need to hold their feet to the fire regardless of what they think.

In the time it took you to write your response, you could have logged onto the site and shot off a couple of letters to "Dumb and Dumber" that would have helped the cause.

Believe you me, I can only wish for a tar and feather party when it comes to most of our elected emporor's.

Probably on the wrong forum but very important as it can trickle down to fishing.

Got one word for ya boys and that’s NRA, better known as one of the strongest lobbyist groups in Washington. Senators and Congressmen fear the hell out of them. As Marty put it go ahead and call one of your flakey Senators and see what that does for you. JOIN the NRA, donate what you can and donate often.

I was wondering why my canteen tasted funny!

I did not mean for everyone not to write to our two wonderful ladies Senators – yes we need to tell them how we feel about everything and I don’t care what point of view that you come from. Those two have been in office two long and really don’t know what the people feel or care about.

Sorry if I sounded piss off but I am.

Your right it is always followed by genocide and it has happened dozens of times.

You may want to google the term " false flag operation" and you can get an idea as to where this country is headed. The North American Union is the agenda and that is why they want our guns.

There is a new golden rule and that is he who has the gold makes the rules. The elitist group is called the Illuminati and the Bilderberg group and all but 2 of our presidents have been in their bloodline. I have studied these matters since a few years after 911 and these people are heinous.

"Congress will grant standing to animals to protect their own rights and interests"

Makes perfect sense to me.

Cats and dogs should be allowed to vote. They have been the closest to humans for years so through osmosis they have learned the political structure. They could introduce a socialized cat nip and raw hide program. Dogs and cats will be socialists before the first vote is cast.

On behalf of the rats and mice of America there will be a suit for the loss of their loved ones due to entrapment and being evicted from their place of residency.

The ants and cockroaches will bring suit against RAID et al, for attempted genocide.

PHOENIX (AP) -- About a dozen people carrying guns, including one with a military-style rifle, milled among protesters outside the convention center where President Barack Obama was giving a speech Monday -- the latest incident in which protesters have openly displayed firearms near the president.

Gun-rights advocates say they're exercising their constitutional right to bear arms and protest, while those who argue for more gun control say it could be a disaster waiting to happen.

Phoenix police said the gun-toters at Monday's event, including the man carrying an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle slung over his shoulder, didn't need permits. No crimes were committed, and no one was arrested.

The man with the rifle declined to be identified but told The Arizona Republic that he was carrying the assault weapon because he could. "In Arizona, I still have some freedoms," he said.

It is not Obama that will take away gun rights. It is the ignorance of the select few who feel the need to exercise their rights in the most inappropriate times and places that will take the right away. They will essentially be taking the rights away from themselves by carrying Assault Rifles at political rallies.
