Hey I don't want to keep bugging everyone with this thread but what compression numbers am I looking for when the check is done? I know they should be close to one another but is there a range that the cylinders should fall under?

From Yes, to Not Really, To Not at All.... It depends on what the computer shows for the motor for the most part. The Opti is even more detailed than the EFI's by 7fold in what the motors computer can/will show.

My current boat had 417 hours on it I believe the first time we plugged it in at Inland-Marine. What it showed was that 1/2 of the hours on the motor were under 2k RPM's the remainder were under 4k RPM's and very little hours were over 4k and above.

You can ask for a compression test, service records from the dealer/previous owner's paperwork, last impellor replacement, shop/dealer warrenty ... but another thing to look into is a "Leakdown" test witch is better than a Compression test.

The two things that sort of stick out at me personally for that 520 -- Is it being a single axeld trailor on that heavy of a boat... and no Jack Plate for motor height adjustments.
When I ordered my boat new I thought since the single axle was rated for 4200lbs and the duel was 4600lbs and the boat weighed less than 2000lbs why get the the duel axle.

Let me add to your confusion and give you a real simple path.
Call Rick Grover at Anglers Marine. Tell him what you want, he'll probably have it. You can deal with Rick, he's not out to make a killing on any one boat, particularly a used boat. He wants to move them off his lot, not sit on them.

The reason I say call Rick is because when you buy a used boat from a dealer you will get a boat that has been checked out, if work needed to be done it will have been done, and to a certain degree they will stand behind what they sell you. I know Rick sure will. It just takes an awful lot of the guess work and worry out of the process.

There are probably other great dealers around, I haven't any experience with them. And as big as Angler's is he has a lot to choose from.

I am no mechanic Jared but as far as I know these numbers will vary depending on the Manufacturer of the outboard or the year model. I have always been under the impression that if they are all close (within 10 PSI) then you are good to go.

I agree - Call Rick at Anglers. Every time I'm there they have a selection of used boats.

How about a 2005 Ranger 519 with a 200 HPDI Yamaha?

Best kept well maintained and most buetiful boat in NoCaL, contact Capitol City Marine and ask Phil or Mike for references. I may be ready to sell.

Finally, I bought a boat. I ended up not getting what I expected to get because I ran across a deal to good to pass up when I got to San Diego. I will post pictures in a couple days if I can figure out how.

I wanted a Ranger or a Champion but ended up with a 2006 Trition TR-196. Mercury Optimax L 200 hp (6 hours!). All the bells and whistles.

Here is a link to the ad.

Thank you to all that helped me out...I truely appriciate the advice and help.

Shoot me a pm with what you are looking for both model, year, and price. I may be able to help. I have helped sell a couple the last 2 weeks. I have a hard time finding a 2007 or newer Ranger 520 in EXCELLENT cond. for $12000 This was earlier today. The other standard question is ............How much do you make???? Answer ............NOTHING. I do it because I like to and with guys calling me it makes selling my own easy and at times I know of a great deal on a new one. There was a steal deal that just happened at Oasis Marine last Friday
