Honda EU1000i or 2000 generator?

Post by jsc11700 »

I am looking into a Honda Generator for charging my trolling motor batteries. I am currently running two group 27 batteries and have an onboard charger. I am looking at either the Honda eu1000i or eu2000i. The 1000 watt is obviously cheaper but I don't know if it has entough output to fully charge both batteries. Does anyone have any experience with these generators?

Whisper quiet!

Both only have 8A of output for DC. So if you were planning on using the DC post/output to charge the batteries, they would be the same.

If it were me, I would plug in your regular battery charger to the genny. Do you know how much the draw is on your battery charger? I have used my EU2000 to run a skilsaw or 1/2" Milwaukee holeshooter drill.

I have the 2000 spend the extra money and get it, I have ran in in conserve mode and have had 3 battires charged in the morining.

The only draw back is the gas tank on mine is only good for about 3 1/2 hours, thats why I used the conserve mode, if You use opitma battires they will have a full charge in about 2 hours even after you drain the battries on high all day.

At various times I could run everthing in my Lance camper (except A/C) and still charge my trolling motor battires

even after sitting for a year it only took 2 pulls to get the Honda 2000 started

hope this helps

I have the EU2000 and wouldn't settle for anything less. Very versatile. Actually, I have 2 of them to run my 5th wheel.

I called my charger manufacturer for the 4 bank Dual Pro on my Ranger and was told I needed at least 1800 watts. I went with the EU 2000 and it has worked well.

EU 2000 is the way to go, very quiet, and runs for hours on a small tank of gas. It WILL run more than the 1000.

I was in A to Z rental last week and they have the 2000 on sale for $875 which is a good price. I think I paid $750 including shipping from Mayberrys on the net around four years ago.

The honda generators rock!

i have the 1000i that i use for 49er tailgating, but i have used it to also charge my boat and it has worked great. i have a 4 bank charge pro with 27series batteries, and havent seen any issues with NOT getting it fully charged within 6 hours.

Surely if you can afford it, the 2000 gives you more, but you wont be dissapointed with the 1000 either.

2000 all the way. It's a little heavier and costs a little more, but not much in either case. You will be much happier in the long run.

running at 10A per bank charger it is HIGHLY recommended to get a 2000W generator. Keep in mind that you'll only get approx 4 hrs runtime to a tank of gas and if you're in a camp ground, you'll have to shut it down at quiet time.

The main reason to get a Honda is that they are really quiet. You can run them without ticking off everyone in the camp area. They also start on the first pull and resale is very solid. I use a Python cable lock from Master to secure it at night. At Alamo last weekend theives hit 7 camp sites friday night while people were sleeping and stole everything out of the boats plus cut the chains and stole two generators.
