Trailer bunk glide sliks

Post by msilva21 »

Anyone out there put glide sliks on their carpeted bunks? They're supposed to make loading/unloading easier, so they claim.. Any feedback?

I just use the bunk enders that help mainly in low water ramps but effectively prevents wear on the bunk pad.

I've heard of boats ending up on the concrete. I've seen watercraft on the concrete.
They work real good, but have never understood the need for them. With a properly placed trailer, everything should take care of it's self, and you don't have to worry about your boat sliding off the bunks if it's not secured with the winch.

Thats scary..I guess they work too good.
maybe I just need to get better at finding the right placement of the trailer. I tend to need to back the trailer deeper than the rear/side load guides in order to drive it on the trailer and If there is a cross current or cross wind then my back end slides out of place.
I thought with these things, i would not have to put the trailer in so deep, so my load guides are exposed out of the water to keep the boat straight.

Try wetting your bunk pads (lube with water) – back the trailer all the way back until both pads are wet – then move forward to where you want you trailer to load your boat.

Good point Marty.. I do always make sure to wet the bunks before loading. I think maybe my engine does not have enough umphh to get the boat all the way up when the trailer is shallow??

My trailer has to be in one spot, to shallow and my engine won't push the boat up to the stop. To deep and the back end won't be straight. Just to a little getting used to.

I've seen some guys hit the middle of the bunks and power their way up to the stop. I've also seen that post break at it's base  .
I had to come back...I know...

Yep, I'm thinking I should wait a little longer and see if I can fine tune it before I put those sliks on and end up leaving my boat half way up the ramp while I drive off with just the trailer. It is a new boat, so maybe I should give it some time to learn it better. Hmmmmm. I'm so dang inpatient.

I tried them . Looked like they were wearing gel-coat off the bottom when trailering so I ended up removing them.
