Re: Going to Lake Millerton ... spots or LMB'S or both ?
the fish report in the fresno bee says they are catching them on shad.
no trout report or plants that I saw.100% just had a tourney there and winning weight was 9lb and change.mostly a spotted bass lake I think.

You can go up the river this time of year. Drop shot or darthead shad colored worms. Robo makes one with a curly tail. Larger fish can be found on the main lake across from the Fresno launch, or to the right of the Madera launch. Most fish are not very large.

Millerton in my opion just stinks any time of year.Go to Pine Flat or Eastman if you are going to be in the Fresno area. If you had to fish the Dead Sea , stay by the dam and pray. We fished there last year and caught one keeper for 1.75 and cash a check for 1st place big fish and fish there 3 years ago and caught 3 fish for 3.43 lbs and got 4th and a check. Lake just flat out stinks.

Go To Pine Flat! Im not sure about numbers or size at Millerton, But you can and more then likely will catch good numbers at Pine Flat with the possibility of catching some good sized fish as well. There are alot of trout in Pine Flat and it has a mixture of Large Mouth and Spots. Pine Flat isnt to far away from Millerton and If you decide to go there let me know and I will give you some good areas to go fish!

Forget those lakes around Fresno....including Pine Flat. Just drive the extra 1 1/2 to the delta. Save yourself the hassle of fighting the wind only to catch some dinks. Plus there are places on the river to have a "good" time if'n your tired of fishing. Ski beach can be very fun......and entertaining.

Hey Shaun,
Just approach it like a So Cal lake (think CashTake )
The few times I have been there, I didn't have much trouble catching 'em. Jigs, Drop Shot and Jerk baits. Both Largies (jigs and jerks) and Spots. I wasn't into huckin' the "bigger" baits the last time I was there...but I did get a 5+ on a 125 Pointer Best limit I ever got was around 17#
Good Luck!
Gary

Once or twice a year....that more than enough for this local guy. That lake has never been worth anything but partying and strippers....unless you like catching 7# bags. Hey Mark curious if you know a guy named Rod Martin or Joe Delana? Old friends...?

Re: Going to Lake Millerton ... spots or LMB'S or both ?
Millerton is hit and miss. I have seen some heavy bags come from there and there are plenty of good fish. I would say, spooks, blades, rips and jigs for better fish. Just like any spot lake, lots of little fish, but you can get the good ones if you know where to look. I'm still trying to find them myself, but i know they are there. A good spot to try is where the two rivers enter the main body at the no ski buoys. There should be some current with the lake rising. Good luck.
BTW, there will be tons and tons of skiers, sailboats and jet ski's. I usually head into the no ski zone to escape the traffic. Watch out if you go upriver, there are some unmarked hazards(rocks piles). Have fun, be safe.

Dude, just approach Millerton like we would do with Piru around here. Don't expect it to be a biggie fest, do bring the finesse, and you'll do fine. If you can catch'em at Piru or Castaic during bad times, you can catch just about anywhere Except the Delta... or Clear Lake.

Do what you do best, throw that big bait and make sure you post some pictures of the fatties you catch!S. Bailey wrote:just going for the holiday weekend, no derby or anything, somebody give it up ??????????

Re: Going to Lake Millerton ... spots or LMB'S or both ?
Alright all you Millerton bashers. It may still be the "Home of the quarter pounder", but it is still better than it use to be. Start out with reaction baits. Slow roll a spinner bait, finesse rip with a spinning rod, flukes, and top water for sure. If you hook a small spot on a top water, just let him sit a bit and wait for a big striper to eat him. You are bound to get a treble in him. Later in the day look for fish on your graph and drop on their heads. Should get a lot of bite that way. Don't forget a spider jig or a small finesse jig. If you are going on Memorial Day weekend, go back into Winchell Cove (only cove with boat docks) and stay in there. No skiers will bug you. 5mph only. Bring your shad swimbaits. The big spots will eat them. I have caught a few spots over 4lbs and the back of Winchell is known for its large mouth population. Please post a report of your trip. Those of us that live around Millerton will be curious how you did.
Good luck,
Mike

Just curious as how you did at Millerton.
Re: Going to Lake Millerton ... spots or LMB'S or both ?
well guys let me tell you , you have quit the lake up there. Bass fishing was amazing ... im gonna stay tight lipped on this one till i get back from filming for the next DVD
Thanks for all the info guys, the regular bass bite was really good. Caught fish shallow all day on rip baits and cranks, saw huge bait balls all over the lake, fish under all of them. lots of suspended fish. very good lake but very untapped

Shaun,
How long do we have to wait? Can't wait to find out. Millerton needs some love. It's no Delta or Clear Lake, but it is one of the few lakes we have close by. Keep us posted.
See ya,
Mike
