What is the best Braided line? why?

Post by Derrick »

I need to buy some braided line- it's been a while. The only two I have ever used is Spiderwire, and power pro 50lb 65lb are their better lines out there?
Thanks

Look at Hi-seas braid. I've been using their Braid since Oct 07 and literally no problems. I flip 65# and its smoother than any mono line. Rocks or Levee rock, I move it with it.

http://www.hiseas.net/ Its a Eastcoast line company and they sponsor alot of Bass curcuits and starting to sponsor pro's.

Knot I use with it is the San Diego Knot. Stronger than any other knot that I found. I also use the braid on my swimbaits with that knot. NEVER have broken off because of cuts or at the knot.

You can find it only at Tackleware house.

thanks for that info Rich, I have some of that braid but haven't tried it yet, I think I'll put some on for this weekend. I love that "Black Widow" by high seas also but can't find anyone to carry it.

Sufix.

And to answer the "Why" question: All braids pinch into themselves, especially when you reef on a big fish, or sunken van or something. Sufix Braid has the best coating, and will pinch less than any other brand I've ever used.

BTW:
I am no longer sponsored by Sufix, and yet I am still willing to pay full retail - it is that good.

Peace,

P-Line Spectrex is absolutely awesome:

Spectrex IV transmits strikes better than any other line because of its near-zero stretch factor.

Spectrex IV Spectrex IV is a four carrier Spectra braid. Each carrier has up to 60 strands of Honeywell's highest quality Spectra and is braided into a single line totaling up to 240 strands. The line is cross-linked with a color matrix locking the color into the fibers to ensure color stability. We then apply a reinforced resin system to increase tensile strength and make the line hydrophobic.

So what does this mean to the angler who is not an engineer? It means increased sensitivity because of near-zero stretch factor. It means increased line capacity because of the high strength in comparison to the diameter, and it means a line that has an unlimited life on the reel because the line is UV resistant and hydrophobic.

Over the years i have found that the other brands really deteorate after usage a few times especially in the summertime when it is exposed to sun for lengths of time. The P-Line Spectrex maintains its shape, feel and color.

I tride it years ago and didn't like it at all.... doesn't havent the slick coating or the roundness that makes today's braids perform so well......

Power Pro for me........ it's cheap, sold everywhere, and reliable

I keep hearing good things about Suffix but the price has kept me from trying it....

Any more I use Power Pro braid for my Buzzbaits, Spinerbaits and Frog and on my Dropshot I go with black FireLine with floro leader (No twist sister for me). I do have a spool of Gorilla but have not used it.

As for why, I just don’t know any better.

Derrick,
For flipping, i have stopped using braid and strictly use flourocarbon. i think it provides the best solution for the application.

I like the new Trilene 100% flouro - works great, tough stuff. P-line is my second choice.

For my braid applications, i still like the SpiderWire Stealth. i really like the teflon coating it has to make it glide thru the guides.

Give those a try, you won't be dissapointed.

jim-

P_Line is it's own product. Power Pro is similar but the technology of coating and amount of strands is totally different.

Are there any advantages to 50# as opposed to 65#?

Kinda.

Most of the lines we use today are made by the Ningbo Company in either their China or Taiwan factories. Yes, they are so busy they have that many. Actually, they have more, but the Japanese companies usually import from the Indonesia, and Sri Lanka factories.

So to say that "P-Line is Power Pro re-labelled", isn't exactly correct. But their formulations may be very similar. Keep in mind, just because several lines are made in the same factory, does not mean that their chemical compounds (recipes) are all the same.

Big Blue Daddy - Regarding price:
You make a good point, but if that was the deciding factor in the fishing equipment and tackle that we use; we would never use Tungsten anything, or premium hooks like Owner and Gamakatsu, and forget Fluorocarbon. If Sufix, could make their braid better, and charge less at the same time, they would.

Snapitoff2002:
"Are there any advantages to 50# as opposed to 65#?"
I don't know. I guess you could say 65# gives you 15 more pounds of power. But I personally jump from 35# to 65#. I don't use the in between.

Sorry if I sound like Cliff Clavin, I just have a passion for this industry, and in working with Sufix, I have come to be very fascinated with the fishing line process.

Peace,
James
