I'm having the "gas price blues"
put one pump in the truck and one in the boat yesterday (the cheaper 87 stuff) ..... both pumps automatically shut off at $75 each and neither my truck nor my boat (one tank only) were full this sucks WTF!!!!!!!
These gas prices are really startin to hurt our fun somethins gotta give.. Whatever happened to the deal last year where bunches of folks protested by boycoting the larger oil companies (or the largest mid-east importers) for certain months. I'm sure the big companies can outlast the boycott longer than the little guys need for petrol.... but this is just otta control...
Any rich non boaters out there with plenty of gas $ and good netting skills looking for a ride ????

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
that same thing happened to me $75 3/4 of a tank in my truck and one full tank in my boat.
i found that it is better not to look at the price after the pumping is over. i have been bringing two friends with me to fish so we can split the cost 3 ways even though i hate fishing 3 folks on my boat.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
I'm lucky I only have a 150 and my fuel is covered. Maybe we should trade BDBR...a 10#'er for some fishing on me. Actually launch is free to. Damn I need to go out more.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
Cant win! I bought a smaller boat with a 115. Its GREAT on gas! But the truck took 90.00 to fill up the other day. Still about a 70.00 day to Oroville or the Delta. If I go to the Delta I still have to add the ramp fee. Im lucky enough to have a back seater that gives my half.
Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
I keep hearing that if you hand the debit card to the store clerk inside the store, you will not be subject to the $75 or $100 cut off limit at the pump.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
Its atleast a 1 hour pull for me to get my boat wet, so it definitely hurts me. I try not to fish too far from the launch, and keep it under 4000 rpm. The truck though....well I cant do much about that thing, it just sucks gas like crazy

The Chevron by my house took my ATM card past $75.00. Sadly, it didn't stop until $87.25. That's the most I've ever paid for one tank of fuel.
I've let off the lead foot on the water and on land. The cruise control is set for 65mph on the freeway. Make sure the tires are filled the the proper psi. Little things can help with fuel efficiency.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
Yes, thats true. Its a hassle to have to keep putting your card in after $75 bucks. But its also a hassle to go inside and stand inline with the same guy who wants a pack of smokes the clerk cant find, or the woman who only has a twenty, wants $7.35 in gas, a challupa, biggy drink and a candy bar; all that total $20.75 . She dont know which to give up?!?

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
I used to work at a gas station while in school. Everyday this guy would come in and put in 5 gallons of gas. Not $5, but 5 gallons. I always hated counting out pennys for gas.
Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
Same here, I have to use my card at least three times at the pump, once to fill my truck tank and twice to fill my Ranger.kopper_bass wrote:i prefer to deal with stupid machines rather than stupid humans!!

Of course, keep the truck in shape and driving habits will help with fuel efficiency. I dont wanna get into tube floating...

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
I thought hard about buying a V8 and selling my V6 Pathfinder but that was 2 years ago and the gas was going up, I could have bought a Saburban for 6K and it only had 98K miles on it and it was clean but I just did not want to spend the $ on gas, I needed power to pull my 18 ft 175 hp Ranger over Sunol grade and Mt. St. Alina going to Clear Lake so I said to my self hey keep your boat close to the lake, this has saved me a ton of money over the last 2 years but let me tell you I am still spending a ton of money on gas even with the V6 with these prices I have been going on less trips but when I do go I take more time, I used to go for just one day or 2 back about 8 years ago, I would never do that now.
We are still blessed to be able to do what we do but its getting real hard!!!

My Tahoe is 25 gallon tank(at 3.78 a gallon that is $94.25 to fill) The boat has a whopping 55 gallon tank(at 3.78 a gallon that is $207.90 to fill) to go fishing $302.15. Plus food and launch fees. Now if we are tournament fishing we have hotel and fees on top of that. You have to win the dam thing just to break even. As long as we keep buying the gas, they will keep raising it.Like Earth day, we should have a no buy gas day. I no I amm not pre fishing as much this year.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
Well just think of this.I am in the Wholesale Plumbing business and we were just notified that SCRAP iron is now being traded as a commodity. That's not good new's for our economy. We purchase our steel pipe from China,I know I know, but they notified us the price will more than likely change. The damn stuff is still half way across the Atlantic on the Ship???.
They know we cant refuse the shipment and will pay the price.Remind you any other Company's:ie Oil.
No Hub cast iron pipe and fitting's had two back to back 18% increases in less than two week's.The list goes on and on.
Good luck.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
In the mid 70's the National speed limit was reset to 55mph, we had odd/even day to fill up and there was a limit on how much we could buy at a time. All because OPEC wanted to raise the price on crude.
Now we have the fat cats on wall street doing the same thing and the Manufactures (Chevron etc ) are crossing record profits.
But as much as we bitch and complain I don't see anyone slowing down on the freeway, just as many SUV humming along at 80 with people yakking on there cell phones !
I got passed by a guy towing a 2o foot jet boat the other-day on interstate 5, with Oregon lic plates, I clocked him at 80.
When we tell the speculators and oil co to go to hell that's when we will see a change, but we need not to blink first and not back down.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
I remember those days also, but there isn't a thing we can due about it. The current or projected administration will continue on with their talk and nothing will happen.
I'm retired, i'm lucky and can cut my gas consumption in half, which I have. The change in my gasoline use won't and isn't doing a thing to affect the price of gas, corn, milk or bread. As well as all the commodities that are delivered by truck.
On a positive note, check out the price of beer, wine and other forms of alcohol, they are going down. I believe from my political science courses that's how certain forms of government control their populations.
The next president and his or her's agenda has already been set. Gasoline will contnue to go up and up and up. We will have to continue to suck it up.

For the first time Oil consumption in the US has declined. I would say this would be telling oil companies something. But prices still go up. So maybe not. I just read this on MSN. They were talking about how prices SHOULD be going down but they are not.Guy Kelley wrote:In the mid 70's the National speed limit was reset to 55mph, we had odd/even day to fill up and there was a limit on how much we could buy at a time. They can keep on pushin an pushin. It effects everything except for a increase in wages. Pretty soon the levy will break.
Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
I know that we are all feeling the pain at the pump. My question is how is this effecting the national tournament trails? Is the number of entries down?
Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
Well just take a look at the National Guard for Lake Meed. Some one posted that there were only 85 boaters for it with 25boaters on the waiting list. Do I know if the numbers have gone up...no but gas is DEFINATELY a factor for the low numbers!

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
In the last 7 days ....
Put a $50 gas card from my work in my truck Tuesday ..... and I got 4 R/T's on it. Topped off today leaving Martinez for $121.44 in filling two tanks.
Sunday I topped off the boat after the prior Delta ABA for $110 and change ... Then boated for the DTT on Sunday. The DTT gives the boaters $30 witch is cool and I know the kids got all of it back easily -- Luke and I then fished after the DTT Tourney running to the the East Delta. I'll top it off tommorow or Monday to see again how much was used. ~~ But I burn $70 - $45 on average every trip depending on where we launch from.
Wife filled the Diesel Truck last Tuesday for $140 something when she said she was just under a 1/4 tank. -- the cheapest I can find Diesel now is at $4.43 a gallon. That should last her 2 weeks running the kids to school and their activities ........providing that she does not go visit any family.
+ $50 to DeltaLukes ABA partner Stinko~Guru on tourney day .... and all they did was dropshot under Russo's red house !!
I was planning on taking that "Stimulus" check/refund and open a free checking account with it up at the corner Bank -- only to use strictly the Debit card in gas monies to see how long it would last. -- But I spent it already this week.
Something has to give -- and it looks like I will be voluntering for one or two 12hour shifts of O.T. a month just to keep even~keel with summer clothes and shoes for the family comming up.
Wife wants to go camping in Shasta as I have the month of June off ... I told her already that it will be Brandon Island battling the Meat Bee's as the farthest we will travel.

My F150 has the "optional" 37.5 Gallon tank, do I hear a triple swipe? Pretty soon I think we will. Pretty frustrating. I've been sleeping out of my truck on the weekends to save from driving back and forth.. got a good air mattress, been ducking the gun shots at night, not to bad

Ranger 520 w/ 225 rude 52 gallons x 3.59= 186.00
$350.00 to fill both.
sold the excursion last week.

The company I work for has cut back on OT completely. I've let my neighbor(a plumbing contractor) know that if he ever needs any help with some side work I'm available.
I griped when gas hit $2 a gallon, and I was making twice what I make now .
I thought saving money and planning for the future was a good thing, now I get to watch the savings account slowly dwindle away. I have seriously considered giving up tourneys.
Like you said, something has to give. Until WE the people can stand together and really let them know they have gone to far, ain't nothing gonna change.

Spot on. Medical is another whole fiasco with these insurance companies taking us all to the bank promising the world and denying every claim they possibly can. Then some even advertise they believe in doing the right thing. I cant believe the gas prices it will affect every aspect of this country eventually. When i bought my diesel in 03 diesel was $1.41. I thought I was gonna get over on the gas war. Boy was I wrong. The bottom of the barrel is now more expensive than unleaded. What a crock. At the end of the day dont vote for Hillary because I truly believe she has absolutly no answers. Politicians wouldnt even be able to tell us the price of a gallon of gas if it werent in the media so much. Ask them how much a gallon of milk is though. Most couldnt answer that one!plungers wrote:I"ll pay higher gas prices over the float tube idea. Medical expenses are way higher than gas prices.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
A lot of folks can't understand why we pay so much for oil and the reason is purely geographical. Because of environment issues we refuse to drill in our own country. To compound this our dollar is weaker overseas making it cost more in American dollars to buy that oil. The reason for our weaker dollar is because our country gives favorable status to other countries where they don’t reciprocate in kind (China). Plus once the oil gets here we really don’t have the refineries to process into gas. Also those refineries are in the hands of a few companies which gives them a monopoly. Because of environment impact statements it cost too must and a lot of time for other companies to get into the refineries business. Don’t forget we have 21 different blends of gas because of environment issues again making it cost even more. This same environment issues will not let us go to nuclear to give an alternative energy. This is the only energy that will in time pay for itself. To top it off, don’t look for your Government to help because they are making 60 cents (tax) on each and every gallon of gas sold. We as a country have not had an energy policy for several years.
They ran a test last year to see if you would take the increase in gas prices and we did! There is no one to blame but ourselves we let them get away with it!

It's all relative.....If you break down the "real" cost of gas half the price is in taxes our own government charges us. Imagine that. Where's the guy that works over in the Richmond refiery thats posted before? Curious to hear his side of the thing.

Yuppers ... In 2 years the price for our house has dropped by $175k from what I SHOULD of sold it for back at the peak .... But who knew it was gona get this bad ?? I knew they were over inflated -- I thought it was the housing market that would be making the corrections like back in '88 .... Not the Mortage Industry !! ~~ This one is gona take ALONG time to recover.
My 401k thru Fidelity .... Lost $45k in just the first quarter of this year !! -- Keep looking for what fund options to put it into ~ and they are ALL BAD currently !! -- Even the boys collage fund has lost almost $5.4k for the first quarter.
Fact ..... Beverage companies sell more beer/spirits to the agerage Joe when times are bad more than when times are good.On a positive note, check out the price of beer, wine and other forms of alcohol, they are going down.

I guess you could say we're getting a "deal" compared to other places around the world. I think we all better get used to it and plan to pay ever increasing prices, we may see some small dips here and there, but the trend will be to go up.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
I hear ya Big Daddy...I haven't let my Cummins drop below 3/4 tank in a long time, and even with my Safeway club card taking .10 cents a gallon off, it just barely tops it off! One thing though, the cummins gets alot better gas milage than my 1500 v-6 ram work truck, the best I've done in it is 18mpg. I guess I'm glad I'm not a trucker...they're the one's who are hit hardest by the gas nazi's.BIG DADDY BLUE RANGER wrote:put one pump in the truck and one in the boat yesterday (the cheaper 87 stuff) ..... both pumps automatically shut off at $75 each and neither my truck nor my boat (one tank only) were full this sucks WTF!!!!!!!

Interesting, the last five countries on this list are major oil producing countries and look at those cheap gas prices!Dan McKenzie wrote:I guess you could say we're getting a "deal" compared to other places around the world. I think we all better get used to it and plan to pay ever increasing prices, we may see some small dips here and there, but the trend will be to go up.
PRICE OF GAS AROUND THE WORLD
Prices are quoted in US dollars per gallon for regular unleaded.
Oslo , Norway
$6.82 Hong Kong $6.25 Brussels, Belgium $6.16 London, UK$5.96
Rome, Italy $5.80 Tokyo, Japan $5.25 Sao Paulo, Brazil $4.42
New Delhi, India $3.71 Sidney, Australia $3.42 Brisbane, Australia
$5.68
Johannesburg, South Africa $3.39 Mexico City $2.22
Buenos Aires, Argentina $2 .09 Riyadh , Saudi Arabia $0.91
Kuwait $0.78 Caracas, Venezuela $0.12
I think it's about time we drill in the U.S. before we join the ranks of Oslo, Norway and London.
Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
When we look closely at the prices paid in other countries, especially the European countries, we know they are paying more for gas, but if you strip away the taxes paid in Europe and the US you will see their fuel is slightly cheaper than ours. I am constantly hearing people comparing our prices to Europe, but personally, I couldn't care less what they are paying London, I don't live in London. If they are willing to stand by and let their government charge them so much in taxes, that's their problem.
As far as drilling in the U.S., they are sure doing a lot of drilling here in Wyoming. There are numerous new wells being planned and we should end up with about 63,000 wells for natural gas and oil. I feel lucky because Wyoming has the least expnsive taxes on gasoline and our prices are currently about $3.30 per gallon and Diesel is about $3.90. Too high, but some of the least expensive in the nation. Then again, we don't have the issues with government and enviromentalists that California does. In a state with just a litte more than 500,000 people, we have no need for as many rules and regs.
As far as pricing goes, Chevron, Exxon/Mobil, BP America and others do not set the prices, the prices are set on the commodities market with highly emotional investors that look for any reason to raise prices. That's not to say that investors, oil companies and politicians can't manipulate the market.
There is a wonderful book called "The Prize" by Daniel Yergin that tells the hisotry of the oil industry and it's a real eye-opener. It's a very LARGE book, but is filled with fascinating history of the industry and players that still affect the industry.
Luckily, fishing in Wyoming is very inexpensive because we don't need boats, we just go to the lake, step out on the ice, walk to our favorite fishing hole, break out an ice pick and chip our smallmouth out of the ice. Oh sure, there are those two weeks in July when the ice gets a little thin and we have to be careful. But don't believe everything you hear about Wyoming being too cold, why hell, last year we went two whole months without any snow. The last snowfall was in June and started up again in September. We also save a bunch on tires because everyone drives snowmobiles. Our bass club doesn't have special deals on motor oil or props, we get deals on skis and snowshoes.
It would be easier if we weren't constantly being interrupted by Mule Deer, Pronghorn and those darn Moose are very pesky.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
we already have 250 times the number of oil wells in the U.S. than Saudi Arabia, in fact we have more than any country in the world, but our wells produce only .0025 % of the average well in Saudi Arabia.
I don't like the price anymore than you, but drilling new wells will only drive the cost up, not down. You might be interested to know, OPEC tracks all oil production, even that of non members, they adjust OPEC members production so that oil production worldwide remains at or below it's current level forcing oil prices to remain inflated.

As I stated earlier, we need to utilize our oil shale and tar sand resources. At the current prices opec can do what they want, we would have enough crude to not import a quart from the middle east, Mexico and Venezuala.Dan McKenzie wrote:we already have 250 times the number of oil wells in the U.S. than Saudi Arabia, in fact we have more than any country in the world, but our wells produce only .0025 % of the average well in Saudi Arabia.

Re: I'm having the "gas price blues"
Actually, Saudi Arabia is the second largest importer of oil to the US. The largest importer of oil is Canada, Mexico and Venezuala are third and fourth. So... the way I figure it, if we take over Canada and Mexico, we won't need and "foreign" oil plus we will ahve great hunting and fishing, along with killer beaches to add to our international attraction.

A kick boat starts to sound better and better ever time I pass up the gas station.
