Shimano Curado no longer being manufactured?

Post by bryanw80 »

Is the Shimano Curado that is out now being replaced? I was told today that Shimano is no longer going to make the Curado and it will be replaced by a new reel this September. This is why there is a rebate for $50 for them now, so they can get rid of them all? Any truth to this?

I hear they have a new manufacturer and may not make them for a while if ever. I would pick one up while you can, 119.00 after the rebate from tacklewarehouse.

If they did I think it would be a BIG mistake on their part. I mean why would you get rid of one of your best selling and best money makeing reels?! It just doesnt make sence to me sometime when manufacturers have a good thing going then for some reason decide to "improve" it or just pull it. My therory is "If it aint broke, then dont fix it" nuff said

I heard they are going to continue making the Curado but they are going to re-do it a little and the new versions will be made in Malaysia. Malaysia is where most of their lower end reels are made so I don't know if it says anything about how the new ones will be but I know I trust my Japanese made Curados. Rumor has it they will be unvailing the new one at I-CAST this July.

How's this for a sneak peek at the new Curados? This is from the Shimano Japan catalog.

Second hand knowledge, but there it goes...

The new Curados are in the works...
Simply because the D series was not the huge hit that it was expected to be (and having to compete with the REVO as well, the sales just weren't great.
As for me, replacing the Curado B was a hugely bad move for Shimano, them simply "fixed" something that wasn't broken!

The rebate was instituted so they could get rid of all of the curado D before they brought out the new ones.

Perhaps some of this is true, perhaps not, its just what I have heard.

I heard it through the grapevine that they were not selling well at all. I mean if they are going to re-design them that fast there must have been trouble in paradise. I hear they were sitting on years worth of stock that was not moving. I am not sure what the new ones will be like, hopefully they will be lighter and cost less. I was not impressed with the new ones save the 300. I have never seen a shimano coupon like that before, I thought they were doing it to hook up their customers, looks like they did it to get them off their hands.

Nope, no specs. This image came from my buddy and it's in Japanese. We can't interpret the text.

In my opinion, most reel manufactures on the market make a solid reel. I have die hard friends that only used top of the line gear now rant and rave about the BPS Rick Clunn reel. It's on sale for $79.99 and they tell me it'll go cast for cast with reels 3x more expensive.

I personally use Shimano, Daiwa , Penn and Abu reels. I've owned Pflueger and Quantum in the past. Each model fills out a niche that is part of my personal fishing style. They'll all do the job they were designed for.

Actually, I think it's the other way around. The reel shown in the pic looks like it's closely based on Shimano's Metanium Mg reel frame which came out before ABU's Revo series...

290g=10.22oz and 320g=11.27oz. Could those specs be correct. IMO I believe Shimano is trying to lower the retail cost of the Curado line and improve it looks to make it more competitive with the Revo's. The current models are not bad and a very good deal at the current prices.

~~ I bought the 300 from The Hook back in December and got the check once mailed in by 3 weeks by Shimano.

....It went into the gas tank that very same day that I cashed it + smore.
