Swimbait rod blank

Post by carlton »

Hello
I am planning on building a swimbait rod that can handle a 1-6oz bait. I have been looking at the rainshadow blanks but want to know what other people have used. I am fairly new to rod building and would appreciate any help getting an idea of what other people have used. Thanks

One of my few fishing pals throws a rainshadow 967 blank mentioned on calfishing.com by rob bellonie??? don;t know the exact spelling...I use a gl3 964... HE LIKES HIS RAINSHADOW VERY MUCH. IT IS A VERY LIGHT ROD ONCED WRAPPED.

my gl3 964 is very nice as well. i can throw most swim baits with no problems. i can even fling my BBZ's out there under over hand with no problems. I think Both blanks will be a great all around choice.

I will comment that building a rod to your spec can be better than one off the shelf.

I have two rainshadow blanks one of which I throw wake baits with the other is a flippin stick. I love them both. Super light weight and sensitive!!

I have built 4 Rainshadow's SW967 for myself and for a friend of mine. He throws the Slammer on his shadow as do I but I also throw other swimbaits on mine. We went to Clear lake last year when I first built our shadow's and he and I put them through the tests, The blank is definetly parabolic and loads up real well, we should know we both caught bass over 10 plus pounds, and then I went to Berryessa the next day and took an 11 pounder on it. I was looking at the Loomis blank to build on but said if the shadow has done this well why get anything else, it's just my opinion, I enjoy using the rod I built. Steve

The SW967 won't be very good for a 5 or 6 ounce swimbait, but is great for smaller swimbaits. For the heavier swimbaits, try a Rainshadow IMU907.

Where can i get the SW967. I am looking for some other places other than the Rod Room. I am looking for a place that sells that blank as well as the lamiglas xmg50 blanks. Ive checked a bunch and the only one that sells the SW967 is the rod room. Any other websites would be great. Thanks for all the prior imput.
