Shad,

I think swimming a jig is the best way to match a bluegill. But then we got those Shell Crackers and the are bringing them in to. The Delta and Clear lake gots big bluegills swimming around. To me the jig is my favorite!

i think 3 to 5 inches will get the most attention

4-5 inches is the typical bluegill length of swimbaits. If i remember correctly the Matt's Lure version is 4 1/4 inches long. Hope that helps!

I agree swimming a blue black jig with a single trailer to imitate a blue gill is a 2.99 fix to the 95 dollar swim bait craze. Although if I counted all my shell crackers and triple trout I would have to take my shoes off. I dont care what you use just have confidence in it, and it will work. I have seen a kid with a snoopy rod, stick a mouse on a red wood shingle and float it out into the middle of a lake. He tugged the mouse into the water and landed a 15# brown trout. After that I say anything goes. Oh and the 9 year old kid really didnt care what size kastmaster I was using, he went looking for another mouse.
