Has anyone fished the Sacramento River for Largemouth? And I mean like from the heart of Sacramento and up where the American River runs into it....... I want to give it a shot, but don't want everyone going "what in the hell is that guy doing, there aint no Bass way up here in the Sacremnto river."

Re: Bass Fishing in Sacramento River???
I floated down a section above old Sac 10 + yrs ago, was in the water with a mask and fins. We came to a slower section and i see a couple of smallmouth and largemouth just cruzing. Always wanted to go back to the area and check it out. ONTHETHING !!!
Re: Bass Fishing in Sacramento River???
Every year when I salmon fish there I bring along all my bass stuff and if the salmon don't cooperate I fish for bass. Launch at Discovery and go upstream. Hit all the rip rap banks, rocky points, wing dams and brushy laydowns. Throw blades, jigs, crankbaits and senkos. Mostly smallies to 4 lbs. It's good and I've been havin the urge to get there lately.

I grew up fishing the Sac. It has some excellent bass from the delta to Red Bluff. My personal best is a 9plus from Coulsa on the rock walls. Hudge smallies around Marysville. Got a 5 plus smallie last year ripping over the clay boulders. Blades rippin jigs and tubes. Go get em I won't think your crazy I will just be jealous.

BEING A HOME TOWN REDDING BOY MYSELF, I CAN TELL YOU THERE ARE NICE BASS FROM RED BLUFF ALL THE WAY TO REDDING IN ALL THE EDDY'S AND FEEDER CREEKS OF THE SAC.....

There are both...Sacramento Slough and
Verona Slough. In fact, West Coast Bass used to hold their Classic out of Old Sacramento. Most guys made the long run downstream to the Delta but one guy, Danny Rowe, won a Classic by running upstream to Verona Slough. He reported catching all his fish on white spinnerbaits and he won pretty big.
That was back when a "big" Delta bass went 5 pounds. Today, I doubt the fish in Verona Slough could compete with the big Delta sacks...besides, kb is always sore-mouthing those fish in Verona Slough so they might not even bite! LOL!
One word of caution. The Feather River holds some huge smallies but it is a SERIOUS danger to run anything but a tin boat with a squirt drive up there. Where the Feather comes into the Sacramento River, a huge sand bar extends all the way across the mouth. Yes, I know because I planted a bass boat on that sandbar at 60mph one time. Took me an hour to get the damn boat off the 6"deep sand bar. I went back a week later and managed to get past the sand bar by finding little current channels through the sand. The channels were only a couple feet deep and when I came back downstream it took me over two hours to find my way back through those little cuts...some of them are dead ends and others have obstructions like logs blocking them.
The wing dams up near Verona are great for river smallies but those fish tend to be typical long skinny river fish. Because of the current, it is a challenge to present baits to the protected side of the dams. I used to use the long skinny "pencil sinkers" to work plastic worms past the ends of the wing dams. The pencil sinkers didn't get hung up much. Also, slow rolling spinnerbaits could draw some good reaction strikes. Those river smallies fight good but, personally, I'd rather fish the Delta for big largemouth.

There are alot of bass in that section of the river. A word of caution though. Running around in the upper river can be dangerous. There is a bunch of stuff in the sloughs. I can't count the props and gear cases I have messed up over there in the "old days".
I have hit old cars, logs, rocks, sandbars etc....
Yea you might see me out there once in a while. The lower river around discovery is not bad but North of I-5 all the way to Colusa might get you a new prop and lower unit repair bill.

Re: Bass Fishing in Sacramento River???
I'll coattail on this question about the fishing from Marysville, I've heard smallmouth before.
Where would I launch from, could I launch at the river right in between M-ville/YubaCity, or should i launch somewhere else?
As for Verona, is that like heading straight out to the Sacto River from across I-5 from Trowbridge/E. Nicolaus area (Sankey Road??)
Thanks,
Bass Man Dan
