Where to buy lead?

Post by Sean Graf »

Anyone have a source for purchasing 300 - 500 lbs of lead?

I did see an add in the classifieds but was looking for a future source also.

Dan, check your PM

Thanks in advance,

Check with Ultimate Watersports in Livermore or maybe even Tracy Oasis or another wakeboard boat dealer. I used to sell boats at Ultimate in Livermore and we sold 50lbs bars coated in rubber for people to weigh down their boats with. If they dont have them they should be able to get em for you. I forget the price but hope that helps. Call em up (925)961-1470

Tip- Buy all the metals you can afford a year ago !!

The metals market is off the hook with China paying us to stripmine our resources !!

Just like gas..... Those days of affordability are soon gona be long gone.

actually metal prices are falling. This was preceeded by falling scrap metal prices over the past two months. Demand for raw materials in Asia has slowed, like everything else ease in demand will be reflected in the price.

I have seen a couple 200# lots there. I picked up #100 earlier this year.

Try contacting Fisher-Price! According to their recall notice, about 967,000 toys made with lead paint were put on the market and are now being recalled--you could buy them up for pennies on the dollar and start scraping away!

If your'e looking for lead to melt, check the local tire and wheel shops.
They usually throw the used weights into 5 gal. buckets, and if you buy tires from the place they sometimes will give it away. 100 lbs. a bucket?
Plumbing shops also sometimes have scrap.
Then theres also metal scrap yards.

The tire shops are a good deal, even if it isn't pure lead. You can pour a big football, that is lighter than one of pure lead. Not quite as sticky on rocks, but more snag resistant.

Just watch it with the five gallon buckets, a little bit of sunshine, and they will blow out the bottom, split the side, or the wire handle will rip off, sending the contents everywhere.

I have also landed ingots from wrecked boats, especially sailboats. They need some weight in the keel.
