Best Casting Reel for under 150
Best Casting Reel for under 150
Im looking to buy a new reel this weekend and hoping to get the most for my buck. Im looking for a right handed casting reel that wont have any issues throwing 20lb test for under 150. Anyone have any suggestions?

Take a look at the Quantum Accurist PT. It has 6 PT bearings, a ceramic drag, a flippin switch, and a lifetime warranty.
There are other reels out there in your range as I am sure others will pipe in, but that is a great reel for the price. ($129???)
Good luck with whatever reel you choose.

Look at the KVD Quantum baitcaster at Bass Pro Shops. Same reel as the Accurist, 6 bearings, less money, almost always on sale, either alone or in a rod/reel combo.
If you want an "inexpensive", light reel, stretch $10 and look at the Pflueger Summit, also at Bass Pro Shops. Great reel for light baits, like smaller rip baits, worming, cranking, and it handles larger line and baits, too.

You will get a bunch of different answers, but here are a couple that I'm using now and they are awesome......the Browning Midas is a beefier reel than most low profile, so it handles the bigger line much better.....I am using those for my 5"-6" swimbaits and throwing it with 15-20 pound Maxima......it retails for around $130 (Bass Pro Shops)......the other reel that has been a pleasant surprise is the Rick Clunn Signature reel....this thing holds a ton of line, so it has no problems with the big stuff.....for the price you may be able to get two for around $150.....they go on sale for around $80, but are normally $100.....if you are ever in Vegas and want to try either one out, drop me an email......

Another good, solid reel to consider is the Abu Garcia C4. Check your local dealers and/or BPS or Cabela's catalog for details, etc. Bill K

Re: Best Casting Reel for under 150
High Profile- I recently purchased the Record ... Awesome Reel with 55#braid !
Low Profile- I have recently purchased the SX with 10# stren and the STX with 20# powerpro line....Awesome reels as well.
I am a bad boy........ and yes I got spanked for every one of them from my wife.
Both low revo's are alot better than the Dawia Viento that I purchased as well at the same time.
I can not give any comments on any other reels ... I am an ABU Loyalist at heart for the most part and have about another five C3's and Pro Max's and two Big Games as proof.

Anyone use a Diawa TDA 153HST or know anything about it?
Re: Best Casting Reel for under 150
The more I think about it....... Daiwa was VERY smart in marketing the Viento........
They know that even the dumbest and youngest '*** will most likely always swallow a fluke once it it "twitched" in front of their eyes.
-----At least the cobalt blue painting matches my $14.98 rod.

Re: For that money, Hard to Beat Pfleuger's President
I use Pflueger, because for the money you cannot get a beeter reel. The President has all of the features below for around $139. I'm still using my first set more than three years later with no issue. I add to the smoothness by lubricating with Quantun Hot Sauce, I saw Ardent came out with a new high tech reel oil that I will also try.
The Pflueger President
9 stainless steel ball bearings
one-piece aluminum frame and crank-side sideplate.
adjustable centrifugal anti-backlash brake to reduce backlash problems
precision cut brass gears with a 6.3:1 gear ratio
The narrow Pflueger President reel is only available in the right-hand version, see the Wide President for a left-hand model.

Re: For that money, Hard to Beat Pfleuger's President
Sac,
I am a Daiwa die hard. The TDA for the price is one of the best sellers due to its price point. It has 8 ball bearing and 1 roller bearing. It's salt water counter part which is the Coastal is just a popular. The salt water guys love it.
The Viento is a good reel too for just a little more money then the TDA.
The problems with some of the other reels mentioned is they may not last as long as the Daiwa. Daiwa reels will last forever if you take care of them.
Good luck!
Let me know if you need any info on any of the Daiwa stuff.

Re: Best Casting Reel for under 150
The Abu-Garcia Revo SX is for sure the best reel for $149.99. You can get it in a high speed or regular 6:4:1. It will out cast any other reel out there at that price. Not to mention the drag is incredible!! Go to Fisherman's Warehouse and put one in your hand and play with it for a few minutes...you'll see what I am talking about. Oh yeah I forgot to mention they have 11 ball bearings and extremely lightweight!!

agreed citica for under 150. you wont be sorry if you spend the extra and get a curado, well worth the extra 40 clams.
Re: Best Casting Reel for under 150
My buddies have been debating this topic recently. Here are some of the reels we have been discussing:
1. Pflueger Trion or President. Watch Ebay for deals.
2. Quantum Accurist PT or KVD. Watch Bass Pro Sales & Ebay.
3. Shimano Citica. The new Citicas are nice. I just got 3 off of Ebay for $94 each(New!).
4. Can't go wrong with Bass Pro Reels from the Extreme on up. Some of there combo deals are hard to beat.
Hope this was helpful,
Mike

Re: Best Casting Reel for under 150
I recently purchased a Diawa TDA. I've only had it for a little while, but from what I've seen, I like it. It was a good price and just as smooth as my viento. It is a little bigger than I like, but it still works great.

Spend $40 more and get a new curado, it'll last you years and it's performance is second to none for the price, in my opinion.

Re: Best Casting Reel for under 150
Curado is a good reel just over priced.
Go out with some friends that have the other reels and try them.
Pflueger sells alot of reels the problem with them that I hear is they don't last. Same with the Bass Pro Shop reels.
The Revo looks nice and its new so I don't know much about them.
Get the TDA and you will be happy with it.

i agree the citca is a very good reel for the price. And i have been told that they are the same exact reel as the old curao. then i put them side by side and could not tell the diffrence just the finish. also the quantim is another good choice i have a few and have no problams with them
Re: Best Casting Reel for under 150
for 100 bucks the Daiwa advantage is a pretty good buy. I bought one about two years ago, and it still works like its brand new!!!

Look on ebay there is a guy who always has "buy it now" curado's for 150 plus like 10-15 dollars shipping and no sales tax (out of midwest somewhere). Haven't ordered from him yet but I plan to when I want to by my next Curado.
Re: Best Casting Reel for under 150
Pflueger President is the reel that I have been using for the past 4 years. They hold up very well and have all the features of higher priced reels.

UNDER 150 !!! CITICA hands down but i'd take lunch for a week and throw down the extra 40 for the curado i have both and each has their purpose but i still wish i had 2 curado's - Lancer
Re: Best Casting Reel for under 150
In the late 70's i bought Shamano Bantams, & loved them.. Then i started buying Diawa's..... & have 10 or so of them but they seemed to be lacking smoothness. so I bought 6 Chronarchs su[er free's.......
They are great reels, have no issues with them.
2 years ago i bought a Pinnacle Pro Series for my wife.
It was about $ 80.00 .
It has more ball bearings than the Shamano's.
Honestly, i actually like the Pinnacles BETTER than the Chronarchs.
I now have 2 of the pinnacles, & am going to get a couple more this summer.........
The Pinnacle is my new choice...... @ 1/3 rd the cost of the Chronarchs

Well, gotta say the new Shimano 300 is great, but for under $150.00 you probably want to look at Quantum, or Abu, Never used an Okuma but lots of folks like em.
