I sure ain't no tournament angler. but I don't think I could resign a crankbait (or any lure) to any speed clip type product.

There is no better connection than a well tied knot...everyone has there favorite, but that's another post in and of itself!!

My feeling is that a knot, though it takes longer to tie, is definitely a more sure connection. There is certainly human error in the knot tying process. I'd like to think that I loose extremely few lures to bad knots, but no one is perfect all the time. Another thing is that you would eliminate retying all together, which will ultimately result in the knot wearing down because it has been there for so long, scratching on sticks/rocks etc.

Find yourself a good knot and stick with that, it will serve you almost 100% in the long run.

All the best,

They work great.

I use both sizes for different applications.

Just make sure you tie a good knot to it  !

I tried them but I prefer the Duo-Lock snaps. I use them on my Frogs with 65-80 lb braid and have actually pulled my 21 ft ranger through a tullie patch to retrieve my frog from a log on the other side, and it would not breack off. They allow it to walk the dog better also!!!!! Just my .02

I've used them, and I they work. The only problem is that sometimes the lure eye slips between the two prongs (don't know what they're called). I have casted a few cranks that came off this way, and I have almost lost some fish too. Luckily I check my line often and I normally catch it before my bait comes off, but it still makes me uneasy enough to either tie direct or use a different snap.

I'm not trying to steer you away from them, just giving my personal experience.

Good luck!

"The Kid" has a point! Damn he's getting smarter everyday.

I do use them all the time. I don't use them on tourney day - but, I do use them for prefishing - because I love to roll through about 100 lures when i am pre-fishing and it sure saves me a lot of time using the quick snaps.

I do use a few other styles as well - not sure of the name or brands of them.

I have used Norman speed clips on my hard baits for many years. And have only had one issue. I've had one bait come off the clip in my landing net when a fish started struggling. It was kind of how you take a key off a key ring (bait slipped off). Only once out of many years of use. I like the clips because the ease of changing baits, it has a built in snap ring that lets you get more action out of your bait, A big eye tie to tie your braided line too, and are very strong. The smaller clips are hard to hold open however. I like them!

I use them when fly fishing and for fishing with conventional gear. I too, have lost fish because the fly or lure manages to work it's way to open the clip. I've solved that problem by using a file or Dremel tool to create a small ramp on the end of the clip so my fly or lure glides smoothly over the clip ends.
