New Mercury 250 Pro XS

Post by scottsweet »

Hi all,

I was curious what people's experience have been with the new 250 Pro XS? What is the mileage like? How does it compare to the Verado?

Thanks!

Scott:

I have about 30 hours on my 07'250 XS. The motor is awesome and the mileage isn't an issue. I really don't notice much difference from my 225 XS I had last year.

There is still some time on the extended warranty offer so if your looking to buy you need to get ahold of a dealer pretty quick. If you will be at the NG at the Delta look me up I am driving a Triton/ Mercury/ Toyota wrapped X2 Triton with a 250 XS. You are welcome to take it for a drive.

Rick,

You really need to take Lance in the back and teach him a lesson or two....

If you work him up one side and I take the other, maybe...just maybe, he will buy a Ranger

While watching one of the Mercury commercials during the Classic, did I hear it right - the 250 Pro XS tested at 90 mph? Anybody got the facts...?

I think its going to take more than that to get lance in a Ranger, Rick might feel beat up and black and blue after Lance is done boxing on the price! HA...

Im not that bad  But you should have heard some of the one liners I threw at the car dealerships this weekend. Car dealerships seem to think everyone that walk in is as stupid as a box of rocks.

well most that buy cars are. I have seen some really really good and tricky, sneaky salesmen when I worked at sun country marine, these guys could sell you a Chaparall when you went in for a Ranger!

I will be at the W.O.N. event next month, so if KB is not there i'll take you out for a ride in a real boat, Ranger z-21 w/ 250XS If not there let me know when your at Clearlake....
I have to tell you how impressed I was on Mead......This motor is the real deal, I was runnin 70- 72 the whole time there, I still only have about 25 hours on the motor, I beleive I can get more out of her with changing and tweaking the props. I am runnin a 27 pitch prop, I would like to try a 25 and a 26 to see the differance, I here there is a guy in Havasu that is pretty good with the props! any info would be helpful....They say these Mercs red line at about 6400 rpm's and I am still runnin at 5600 rpm's I would imagine
you could pick up some speed somewhere...But I will tell you that I felt very comfortable with the speed. Going out # 4 at Mead and traveling 50 miles I was the first one there, :) :) Ok so only three boats went 8) ...as far as fuel mileage I didnt notice either, the same with the oil..........90 mph ?you got me on this one! The Warranty is pretty awesome though!
So far" this is the best motor I have ever run!"

2 cents, Jimmy

Thanks!

Well Jimmy was close on a couple of things. The 27 is probably a bit big for that boat. The XS 250 hits the top of the power band at 6000 rpms but it won't hit the rev limit until 6250..........(something you will never experience Jimmy).

I don't think I will be at the WON Bass event at the Delta but maybe. Catch up with Jimmy and run his 250 if you can. Just use your imagination on how 4 more mph would feel

Oh and I drop in every once in a while down here. I thought I might get a few of you to listen to Ultimate Bass that way on the radio pages. I know you guys might like a radio show that doesn't talk about tuna

Yes, the 250XS was going 90 mph.....in tow behind Skeet Reeses truck.

As for the 250XS vs. the Verado, the Verado is slower by at least 7 miles per hours and consumes more gas. You see most of the Mercury Pro staff running the XS PRO not the Verado.

I have a Champion 210 with a 250XS and it purrs. I am stil working on getting the top end speed, but that will come once I get the right prop on it.

Good Luck.
