My New Drop Shot Rig

Post by Marty »

Here is a Drop Shot Rig I have come up with. Where I use to place my SPRO Power Swivel was above my hook about two feet I now put it on the hook with a split ring. This keeps my line from twisting and prevented me from reeling up the swivel into the eye of my rod. One last thing – you know how when a small fish hit your Drop Shot rig and messed everything up – with my rig it does not happen anymore. I place the SPRO Swivel on the Split ring first, then I set up the hook and the hook will stay right in the split of the Split ring because the eye of the hook is to small to mover over both wires of the split ring.

VMC and gamakatsu have hooks just like this with the swivel that premiered at icast. Tacklewarehouse has video on them. Pretty cool concept to avoid line twist. Thanks for sharing.

I like Marty's version better.....

Less movement with Marty's, VMC's looks like a gimmick to me.

The VMC solution will keep the hook perpendicular, which is a key with the dropshot.

The VMC is a good looking set up and I will obtain when they come out (late Feb) and use them for Lake fishing where you just nose hook the worm. I have not seen were the VMC have come up with a weed-less set up as of yet.

This is where my set up comes in. I can use a Owner Down Shot OffSet hook for the Delta and set it up Texas style.

I got the Worth split rings at the Hook, Line and Sinker – I think I will somehow dull the brightness on the split rings by paint or Gun Blue (black oxide).

Tacklewarehouse is only taking pre-orders right now and I need them for Lake Shasta in Jan.

Fishermans Warehouse carries Owner hyperwire split rings in black nickle so you dont have to paint them.
