Need a New Trolling motor release rope/cord?
Where can I pick up a new release cord for my Motorguide T motor?
West Marine said they could order me one, BUT... I want it a little quicker than that if'n I can get it.
Thanks in advance,
Kap

I used coated cable on my last TM, along with some small tubing so that it would rub and break any longer. You can make it yourself no problem

Chris Raza has the best ones for sale, they will never break. Cable in a plastic liner. Id suggest getting hold of him for a new cable.

if everyone doesn't have a spare on their boat at all time i would suggest doing so. causes a headache that excedrine cant fix if you dont. you will need it one day i promise.
Re: Need a New Trolling motor release rope/cord?
If you use Raza's you wont need a spare. I think they are good to something like 250 lbs plus...probably more.

Parachute cord from an army surplus store , you can buy it by the foot, can up the diameter for strength and wear and make spares. It also comes in many different colors and patterns.
the best way to catch a big one is don't lose um sharp hooks set drag retie!

If you see guys pulling fiber-optic cable ask them for some of that white strapping they use to pull it I've had the same piece in use for at least 3 yrs. I was watching guys in front of the house and the guy asked me if I wanted some. He said they had to throw it away after they used it. He also said it would pull a car. It's 1/2" wide, soft, flexible, and cloth like. He gave me 75-100 ft. of it and if you can' t find it E-mail your address and I will send you some of it.

Just use some of the rubber coated steel braided cable you can buy from any hardware store. It'll be a one time deal, look good and never break.

Regardless of which rope/line you choose you may want to consider creating a spare to keep in the boat that has a small wire threader attached to one end. I have a 1/4 in diameter black rope about 30" long with a short threader attached to the end to make "on the water" replacment a snap. Once you have to do this you will understand why a wire threader makes it soo much eaiser.

Re: Need a New Trolling motor release rope/cord?
I don't need any--but THREE CHEERS FOR DELANEY....that's about the nicest thing I've seen on this site.
Now watch some guy will probably explain why he can catch 'em bigger and faster with his trolling motor cord the way he uses or wants it!

The Raza cables are available at Capitol City Marine for $12.95.
Includes the whole kit and is simple to install, it will be the last time you will deal with a broken trolling motor rope!

Also spray wd40 or oil on the release mechanism, spring etc. and that will help a lot with how hard u have to pull to get it to unlock so u can pull it up. That was how mine broke and darn near launched my butt into the water. After I retied it and sprayed it the thing is better than new.
