Mono, Fluorocarbon, or Hybrid

Post by BassinRob »

When would you use each? Are hybrid line types reliable?

Would you use fluorocarbon line in a 0-2 ft. visibility lake?

I'm looking for a line that is almost invisible, but at the same time has strength a the point of attachment to the hook/lure.

Would you use fluorocarbon on your entire reel, or just as a leader? If leader, what kind of knot would you suggest at the mono/fluoro connection? Also, what knot at the fluoro and hook point?

Hard to answer simply, but the answer is all three.

I use mono or copolymer on my moving baits, and use fluorocarbon for darter heads or jigs deep. I won't use fluorocarbon for a flippin' line as it does not take the shock of short line hooksets very well, I have broken it too many times in that application.

I would leave a backing on my reel when spooling fluorocarbon and would tie a palomar knot.

So basically, my answer is all three.

I agree with Dan,
I use the Yozuri co-polymer for all my stuff except for drop-shotting and dart heads. You cant break it easy, very high tennsel strength and abrasion resistant. I use seagar invis-x for darts and drops ....
