Minnkota Ulterra trolling motor

Post by bustout »

wanted to get feedback on this trolling motor. I never liked the motorized control and they say this one controls like cable but pedal movement is much easier to move. Also, has many GPS/control features.

Thanks...wanted to do some research before I went out and buy one

I've had this motor since it first came out. I can't comment a lot on the pedal because I almost always control the motor with the remote and bypass the pedal. When I have used the pedal it seems to be the same as the other electric steer motors I've tried, i.e. the Terrova. I think if you dislike the electric steer pedals you will also dislike the Ulterra pedal. On the other hand, the iPilot features are awesome. The ability to track a particular contour on a map is amazing, but for that you have to run a Humminbird finder with one of their maps. The ability to raise and lower the motor with the remote is also pretty cool. Bottom line though, if you don't like electric foot pedals I can't imagine you thinking the pedal on the Ulterra being much better. Like all the electric steer motors with the GPS enabled software, I think they really shine in the open water but are more limited in close quarters like when you are flipping the delta.
