Minn Kota bow Trolling Motor with GPS

Post by rexmontana »

Good afternoon All,

I am looking to put together a pro tournament level bass boat and have seen/read about the Minn Kota GPS systems for their bow motors. I have been unable to find any real, on the water, reviews from non sponsored anglers who have used the devices. Not sure if I want the Terrova, Fortrex or ?? as I understand the Terrova has built in GPS. My intent is to purchase the 101 lb model of either. I also need to be able to use the foot pedal without going thru steps to disable the auto pilot.

My real question is can this device with GPS replace power poles or is it more hype than reality?? Can it hold a 20 - 22 foot bass boat in position in a stronger wind or current condition??

Thank you in advance for any help.

They are electric steer and react to slow for the normal bass angler

I've not had any experience with these Minn Kota w/GPS steering units, but it would seem to me that if you were thinking of using this instead of power poles that you will be disappointed. With power poles down it will keep your boat in one place in wind. With the GPS steering, the wind will push you off your spot, then the Minn Kota will engage and steer you back. Seems to me it's much better to use power poles than to wait for the trolling motor to move you back into position.

Anyway, that's my thoughts...not that it's worth anything.
