I would launch from orwood in Brentwood, it's an easy boat ride, and highway 4 sucks to pull a boat over. Give it some thought.
Good fishing.

Russo's is easiest .... Cut alittle NE across Franks till you hit Connection Slough then follow it down. You will be at the North Openings in 20 minuets or less.

Holland is a good place as well at the end of Delta Road ... Once launched head south to the slough before the RRoad and head East to Bull Frogs. Cut N East once past Bull Frogs and that will take you to the South entrance of Mildred.

The entrances are "difficult" to see for the first time ..... untill you are inside Mildred. Just beware of the grove trees that are big/thick and way off shore where you would least expect them on a high tide. :!:

Get a good map to get some way points. Last year there used to be a crane at Connection's entrance across Franks -- But it is gone now. If you can see the Lone 60' Palm Tree heading across Franks from Russo's -- read to the North of that and you will see the mouth of Connection as you get closer to the wall.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Ry,
From Orwood you would then travel south to Indian Sl. over to Middle River then north to Mildred. Launching at Holland you would have to travel around Bacon Isl either north or south. Al long trip in a smal boat (I think you have a 16 or 17 foot aluminum, right?)

Better yet, tak a look at launching from Sugar Barge. It is very close to the hole in the wall out to Franks Tract. Cut across Franks and head over to Mildred by going over or under Quimby to Connection Slough, under the bridge to the north end of Mildred.

Driving all the way around to Tiki would be a beeotch for sure! Either way it might take you a bit to get there, but the way through Franks would give you some options as to getting home once the wind picks up in that you can skirt around Franks by going down Sandmound to Piper and then over to Sugar Barge.

Shoot me a PM if you need more details!

LAdds Marina is going to be the easiest way to Midred. Its is a nice facility surrounded by a gate. That would be my first choice. Once you Launch go out to the main channel, turn right and head up river from there. YOull make a left near a yacht club (sorry no name) then a right, a slight left follow that all the way down, left turn and once you pass five fingers keep going and Mildred will be right there. Good luck!!

We use to hunt Mildred for ducks in the 70's...Remember that Xman, we got some great Mallard shooting right off that pond they use to have where the island broke...Xman saw the cracks right before it broke...

We came from Pittsburg, too...We always launched at Holland, and went from there...Not a bad ride, you can fish all along the way...Plus, you are protected somewhat by all the islands if it gets windy...

Dang that one island over by Bacon Island...That's what got me started in the bait business...Dug 300 lbs. of clams that day when we stopped by there in the spring...Wouldn't go all the way to Ladd's to fish Mildred...I'd drive by boat from this side of the system...Just my opinion...

If Kacie barks, it's a fish...

Its not a bad run from connection slough, its pretty well protected and may take you 15 minutes to get there. Also too if its not going off inside of Mildred the tulle islands on the outside are great in terms of depth and fish!

Launch from Tikki or Whisky. Both of these marinas are very close to Mildred. Almost a straigt shot from Tikki just a few turns and you are there.

be careful at tiki....especially at low tide

the ramp ends which is like backing your trailer off of a cliff.

Ry,

A picture is worth a million words. But the drive to some of this location to launch from Pittsburg may not be worth it!

Launch at Holland or Orwood. The drive to Tiki or Whiskey would be too far.

Nice part about launching at Holland is if it is windy you don't have to cross Frank's or go out the long 5 mph if it's too rough on Frank's.

I lived in Bay Point for 17 years. It would take you about an hour to drive to Whiskey slough or Tiki. In that time, you would have already launched and been halfway to Mildred had you launched at Orwood or Holland. Orwood has a good ramp and a decent restaurant too.

I launch from Orwood. I've tried sugar barge but launch is steep and I have a hard time seeing my rig as I back it down. I've tried Tiki sev times in my old aluminum boat. If you have a nice boat I definitely would not do Tiki. Whiskey Slough marina is ok but I always worry my car would get broken into in the barren middle of nowhere parking lot. The launch is also a bit steep and you need four wheel drive to get back up. I've never tried Holland and plan to do so in the near future.

Another vote for Holland, with the comment I'd try to launch at either low or high tide, and not when current or wind is strong.

It is nice that the no wake zone is about 50 yards long, so you can be up on plane pretty quickly. :D

It may be slightly quicker to go north up the Old River to get to Connection Slough and into the North end of Mildred, as opposed to going south around the other end of Bacon Island.

I've never fished much around Mildred, let us know how you do. I'm headed to a spot where I had good results last weekend :)

I fish Mildred all of the time. I launch out of either Russo's or Orwood depending on where else I want to fish. The distance from either is about the same to Mildred. If it's super windy, Orwood. No worries at Orwood at low tide and it's $6 Mon-Thurs. Tiki is the closest to Mildred but about an hour or more drive from Pittsburg.
