Yeah save all your baits then buy it. Ive gone through two bottles now and used em once each. The second time was the last time of doing it like that.

I had the same thing happen multiple times. Works great until it dries out and evaporates. I switched and like the 3:16 glue now. Works just the same in my opinion, except it's in the right container for storing.

Try adding some acetone, shake it, and letting it soak for a day. Then shake it and let it sit again.
A couple of rounds of shake and sit, with vigorous shaking, should restore it.
I keep a bottle in my ice chest on the boat, and just keep an eye on it. If it starts to thicken, I add a little acetone, shake, and it's good to go.

Mend-it dries up quickly in any heat. The manufacurer says to store it in your refridgerator or ice chest when on your boat. It's a pain, but it's the only way to make it last.

Hey boys, I'm the owner of Mend-it, the first and still the best soft bait glue on the market. We've tried to eliminate the evaporation problem with high-density bottles which extended the lifespan to over a year. I've got a bottle I poured in May of '08 and it's still as liquid/viscous as the day I poured it but...it's about 1/2 full so it'd definitely been evaporating.

I don't recommend storing it in the refrigerator, our labels say it all: store in a cool place-a bass boat this time of year on the water doesn't count as a cool place! Neither does a boat that's stored outside in the sun, even/especially under a cover, that's like putting the bottle in the oven!

I recommend using our small bottles if you don't do much repairing in a season of fishing, it's only $6 retail and will fix 200 worms. The large bottle is for those of you who repair swimbaits and large lures, it's a good buy at $12 when you fix a $3 to $30 swimbait with a tiny portion of the bottle.

I've always replaced dried up bottles and I still will, simply call me toll free at 866 606 CCBF (2223) and we'll square it away. I guarantee the glue to be liquid for a year but any longer, like my miracle bottle is simply too much to ask given the technology we have and how prone to evaporation the product is.

Again, call me, tell me your story/gripe and we'll take care of it, always have, always will.

Hey Will-

Thanks for the reply and great customer service. Any thoughts towards moving it to an oversized glass container and if that would help eliminate the evaporation issue? Thanks.

Or putting the plastic bottle in a small glass jar for storage in the boat?

Not a bad idea Mark. Thanks. I don't love the idea of a bigger glass jar rolling in the boat, but that might do the trick. The bigger quantities of the Mend it are definitely a plus.

I'm thinking a small jelly jar, or instant coffee jar, would do the trick.
They seem to be pretty strong, and I can just put it in my ice chest when I'm not using it.

Sorry to give bad info Will. My local tackle shop said that your sales rep had a whole case go bad because they left it in their car. The tackle shop owner said they keep their extras in the refridgerator and that is what I should do to prevent another bottle from drying up. Thanks for the info. Does adding acetone work?

ac·e·tone

NOUN:

A colorless, volatile, extremely flammable liquid ketone, CH3COCH3, widely used as an organic solvent.

So I suppose that would mean to me that you might wanna be careful with it, for sure. I do hope Will responds.

Mine lasted for two years, but I put it in a ziplock bag, then the fridge. Only took it out to repair the swimbaits I'd BROUGHT BACK from the lake, I never took it to the lake with me.

I got one of those battery operated 'heat prong' instruments from Don Iovino for about $20 bucks when he spoke at Anglers a couple of years ago; repairs worms on the spot, remelts them instantly and a couple of seconds of cooling and your good to go. Only needs a couple of AA batteries replaced about once a year, good four a hundred or so repairs- Ikas, senkos, roboworms, you name it.

All I need to get into the money would be the four I usually get along with a 20# kicker.

I had a problem with a couple of the old bottles evaporating, but Will took care of me without any issues as he has stated in this thread. I have had no problems with the new bottles, but I am careful about keeping them out of the heat.

I think the problem with adding acetone is that acetone itself evaporates rapidly.

If your Mend-it is just thicker, not totally jelled, MEK is the stuff to use to thin it, you don't need much, just add a small amount and shake the bottle well and let it sit for a few minutes. If that doesn't work for you, call me and we'll get it squared away. Will

BTW, we're looking into glass bottles, just never liked the brush/cap thingy.

Hey Will,
You really do have great customer service and have taken care of my in the past with this situation...which I think is awesome!
In regards to the glass bottle, how do you think a combo cap/dropper would work? I know the bottles of liquid bandage has the cap/brush style...but would a cap/dropper style work for your product?

Thanks again for your great service...
