Best Skipper in Maui is my old [80's] tackle manager Mark Schultz. Runs a boat out of Lahaina called Hinatea. Go to big tree and go left to boat. Cant miss. Great guy. Call him Tady. Rick G.
Anglers Marine has been serving Southern California boaters and fishermen since 1981, with the West's largest bass fishing tackle store and the best boat dealership on the west coast.

Re: Maui sport fishing
When in Maui I went up to the docks at Lahaina two nights in a row right before Christmas to see what they were bringing up to the docks for their trips before I decided not to book.
Most charters and 6-pack boats were deep fishing at that time and had little to show for it - and the prices were JUST CRAZY !!
All I can say is that alot of fishing depends on the season when you are there .... and check the docks/boats with what they cought for that day on their eearlier boardings when they come back into port ....... and prepare to spend a BIG COIN to fish there. Or even get out on the water to Snorkel off shore -- EVERYTHING on those silly Island's is expensive !!
..........Any my parents wondered why we lived off of the Jack-N-Box 2 Taco's for 99 cents, .....Portugese Sausage, Eggs and Potato's from Costco for an entire week !!
Messico in Playa del Carmen/Puerto Morelols/Tulum .... Cozumel .......and even Beleze is where it is all at for everthing from fishing, accomidations, food, peace, .....and what ever else floats your boat !!

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Re: Maui sport fishing
here is the best advice i can give...I go every year for new years and have taken many charters...the problem is, from Maui, you have to run a long way to find the deep water and the markers that hold fish....and the fishing this time of year there sucks.
What you want to do is fish from the shore...go to the walmart/kmart and buy a cheap set up for surf fishing...when you are driving, looks for spots to fish and give it a try...watch out for locals
or a Hawaiian Sling, snorkel and fins is also fun... have a good time!

Re: Maui sport fishing
The Sportfishing boats in Maui are also commercial boats and the crews sell their catch to the local restaurants and tourists. So if you think you can bring home all your catch...you'll get some pushback.
If you are lucky, they'll ask you if you'd like to take home a few fillets for dindin...that's been my exprerience anyway.

Re: Maui sport fishing
Best advice I can offer. (ran a 6 pack boat in hawaii) Fly to Kona for a day and take a boat from there. Much better fishing overall than Maui and much calmer water. (also much closer to the good grounds) An alternative this time of the year is to fly to Kauai and fish for striped marlin but the waters will NOT be calm. Winter time is a good time for tuna and striped marlin IF you get into them but your day will probably be either real good or real bad.... Call around to a few boats in Kona and ask them how they are doing.
Re: Maui sport fishing
Having been a deckhand on charter boats I can say this with absolute certainty. If you can walk up to a boat and book a charter that same day or the next then you don't want to fish on that boat. Good boats/captains and crews are rewarded for being good with business. A good comparison would be to call Cooch or Barrack today and ask to be taken out tomorrow. I would not charter out of Maui good boats fish Kona.
I would rather jog home from my own Vasectomy than spend Saturday at the mall.
